Card share: Party Time!

Friday, November 30, 2007

Sharing a card I made this week, using stuff left out on the scrap table before I put things away and moved onto other projects. So yep all stash again! Love that! Though no-one is allowed the mention the box of stuff I purchased from scrap-diner ok? The bulk of it was an American Crafts D-ring albums, along with some of the Scenic Route Asheville (which I LOVE!). I'm considering that a gift to myself for using up a fair bit of stash lately. Plus it seemed rude to just order an album!

Supplies: Paper: SEI Rub-ons: Joanns; Punch: EK Success

This card I made last night for one of Bobs work colleagues (and our friend) who leaves today for a new job. He's moving away too, which sucks! Now we'll have to drive 2 hours to see him. Anyway, Good Luck Gautam! *not that he reads this blog but still... you never know*

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; ribbon: unknown; Alpha Stickers: Miss Elizabeths

Ok what else? I'm working on digital stuff today! The weather is blergh, raining and miserable, and I feel like holing up in my scraproom and just playing. So today is going to be template day! I pulled out my sketch file and I'm working through it transferring everything to layered templates.

Sharing more creations soon!

Card Share - Thanks

Thursday, November 29, 2007

Another card I made with this weeks sketch, and paper from the SIStv kit (sponsoring the EDS blog this month). Can you believe I still have some of this patterned paper left? Tried forever to make this card work, then I found this scrap of turquoise cardstock in my scraps and it just fell together! Typical! The rub-ons are OLD (and were a PITA to get off the backing sheet!). Infact the ONLY new thing is the paper, everything else is at least 6 months old.

Supplies:- Cardstock: DCWV; Paper: Luxe; Bookplate: Heidi Swapp; Rub-ons: dollarstree; Ribbon: Offray

As you can see the alpha rub-ons are a mix of upper and lower case, ordinarily this would BUG the heck outta me, but I'm letting it go. It doesn't have to be perfect! Keep telling myself that! Now to just resist the urge to rub off the letters and stamp it instead! lol!

In other news I have some happy emails in my inbox! Couple of cards got picked up for publication, so doing my happy dance today! Means I've had to remove some things off the blog so sorry about that.

More creations coming soon!

Card Share: Scrapbooking.com

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

This month I had 2 cards in the scrapbooking.com ezine. First time I'd submitted to them, but I am loving their ezine! I submitted 2 cards with Boxer Scrapbooks manufacturer product and they published both.

Ok you can't tell that well on this pic but the circle is a transparency. Boxer do some awesome transparencies. Oh and loving this holiday text paper!

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers & Transparency: Boxer scrapbooks; Punch & Scissors: EK Success;

Quick card I made for fall last month. Actually made this to send to my parents, set it aside and promptly lost it under a pile of patterned paper. Then they arrived here for their vacation so it seemed a little moot to send it. So Instead I submitted it to scrapbooking.com and they put it in their ezine! Sometimes simple just works. Had these green Prima flowers for a while, just waiting for the right project. Oh and did you see? Inking again! Yep it's official, it's definitely a n inking phase!

Supplies: DCWV; Paper & Stickers: Boxer Scrapbooks; Frame: MM; Flowers: Prima; Ink: Around the Block

If you haven't checked out the scrapbooking.com ezine go look! It's full of great project ideas and articles!

card sketch coming tomorrow!!!

Nice little surprise in my mail Friday, getting this mag from Scott publications with my card published in it! First time with this mag (though they also own mags I have previously been published in) so super excited about that. And I think this is my first stamped card published!

Cool! Loving the one heart... one mind pink paper line. It's actually from their latest Christmas line "Merry Merry Too"! But the papers work great for other occasions too! Here is a closer look at the card (and matching envelope that they didn't print).

Supplies: Stamp: Kolette Hall; All other supplies: one heart... one mind

So I'm working on stuff for December and February right now. Some projects with Scrapworks product and some miscellaneous product (stash) for Valentine projects. Sometimes working ahead is fun and right now I am enjoying it. Seem to be in an altering phase. Had one of those a few months ago but definitely in that 'zone' again. Did 2 altered things over the weekend alone.

More coming tomorrow!

Sharing: Hybrid

Sunday, November 25, 2007

EDIT: Sorry out for publication!

Got busy this weekend. Ended up getting slightly sidetracked and making a couple of hybrid cards with the Damon kit by April Staker. Used this weeks card sketch again!

Credits: April Staker "Damon" kit; Font: Pupcat; Misc Buttons & Thread; ink: around the block

I have to say I've been wanting to use these rub-ons a while. The circle rub-ons are from Joanns (approx 1 - 2 years ago!). Ones that I just put aside thinking I'd get around to using them but never did. The sentiment rub-on I just rubbed each letter individually from the word, carefully rotating around the the circle punches.

Credits: April Staker "Damon" kit; rub-ons: Joanns & scrapease; cardstock: DCWV: misc:pen; ink: around the block

Tip: Add a finishing touch with inks or penwork

Back tomorrow with more creations!

Sharing: Digital...

Saturday, November 24, 2007

Just some projects done with the EDS sponsor for November April Staker. First up is a CD case insert. Done digitally in photoshop and just printed out. Quick and easy project. The biggest thing was the journaling in a circle to fit the patterned paper. The CD is currently on it's way to Mum and Dad loaded with all the photo's I took whilst they were here. Had a CD burning issue whilst they were here but that's resolved now.

Credits: April Staker "Damon" kit; Font: Euphorogenic

Naturally I did the back of the insert too! Gotta match! Printed and folded the edges before snapping into the CD case.

Credits: April Staker "Damon" kit; Font: Euphorogenic

And a layout with the Jolly Holidays kit. Beautiful kit, with some papers and embellishments to fit any occasion, plus some holiday themed pieces. Love the diagonal striped paper and the big ribbon. The photo fit well with the colors in the kit.

I have at least one more thing to share with April Stalker kits, but it's for the EDS blog so waiting a little while on that one being published on the blog before I post it here.

More creations coming soon!

Embellishment challenge!

Friday, November 23, 2007

Well we had a good Thanksgiving. Lots of food, good company and fun times with "rock band" the game. Bob and I are thinking of getting our own for the X-box 360. At the end of the night Bob was hoarse (vocals), my arm was sore (guitarist) and Gautam's back was aching (drums). We have food and drink left over but we'll be taking some to Gautams place later where we'll continue our world tour and search for fame and fortune! "Rock Band" rocks, if you get chance try it!

Well as I said earlier this month I was thinking about doing some general challenges this month to get you to use your stash (just like I am) so here is the first challenge. Buttons! If you're like me you have tons of the things and this weeks sketch really lends itself well to using buttons so grab your button stash and start creating!

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Patterned Paper: SEI; Rub-on: Joanns; Buttons: Misc from stash

TIP: You don't have to sew buttons on! Just grab some glue dots and stick them on! Trust me mine have NEVER fallen off!

TIP: If you like the look of tied buttons, tie the twine through before you stick them on!

Back tomorrow with more creative stuff!

Thanksgiving Thursday!

Thursday, November 22, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving! It's close to dinner prep time for me. Gotta get the potatoes cooking and sort out the Tofurkey. For main dinner today we have Gautam, Srikanth and Sandeep, who are arriving in 2 hours. They are bringing their PS3 and 'rock band' so should be fun. Later tonight we have more guest coming for a potluck kinda deal. Here is a card to brighten up todays post:

Supplies: Patterned Paper: SEI; Rub-on: DCWV (small dots), Scrapease (sentiment); Sticker: SEI

TIP: The scallop sticker on this card is actually the leftover from the alphabet sticker sheet. Trim and adhere to card for a reversed scallop border!

Back with more creations tomorrow!

Card Sketch Nov #3

Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving-eve! Another Wednesday and another favorite sketch from me! Expect to see this one a few times in the next week or so, I cannot stop using it! Much like last weeks sketch. Simple yet stunning this one. As usual the digital template can be downloaded here.

I have to say this is a design I've used before, and loved. I purposefully left design simple as there are lots of ways to interpret this one. The circles are a suggestion for embellishment placement. For my first card with this sketch (more to come soon, stretching them out over a few days) I used these chipboard circles from SEI. Perfect for this sketch really.

Supplies: SIStv ZingBOOM kit "Whimsy Woods"; Font: Sexsmith (downloaded from the internet);

Jackie went with flowers for her embellishments. Love the colors in this, perfect fall colors and the glitter really adds a special something to this card.

Card by Jackie Price
Supplies:Basic grey pp; Prima flowers; Sparkle glue; Marcella K “celebrate” stamp; Stazon brown ink;

My Mom chose to go with straight lines for her card, and she flipped the sketch too. This one shows that you don't have to use the circles they are just a suggestion.

Card by Linda Flinders

Card by Indah Permata Sari
Credits: Lazy Days by Gina Marie Huff of Weeds&Wildflowers

Pearl took the sketch and turned it to make this pretty in pink card. The mix of embellishments tumbling down the card makes a great focal point with the striped paper drawing your eye across the card.

Card by Pearl Liu
Supplies: Bazzill CS , DCWV Nana's Kids CS, Stickers from Shanghai

Wendy shows how this sketch can be used for an elegant, formal card. The embossing and rose design really go together well, and the row of pearls unites the three panels.

Card by Wendy McGlinchey
Supplies: White base card, a strip of white card for embossing, Cuttlebug Embossing folder, complimentary ink to distress edges of card and paper, patterned paper and images from Joanna Sheen Victorian Romance CD, Rubbbadubbadoo Stamped greeting, sticky backed pearls and ribbon bow.

Jo took the sketch in the same direction I did, but she used buttons. (I have a button card coming up in a few days with this sketch) I love the paper with the buttons, perfect holiday card! Love the penwork on this to unite the paper with the stamp.

Card by Jo Willis
Supplies: Dovecraft paper, Papermill card, buttons from my huge stash!, Studio G stamp, black Brilliance ink, Sakura Micron pen.

Cindy as always has a stunning card! I just LOVE this one! The trim is perfect and as you all know I love non-traditional colors for holiday cards, and the gingham paper with the pink just rocks. The white buttons balance out the card perfectly! Stunning!!!

Card by Cindy Gilchrist
Supplies: K&Co Pattern Paper, Bazzill Cardstock, Heidi Swapp Chipboard Label Holder, Making Memories Paint, Making Memories Brads, Colorbox Chalk Ink, Ball Fringe, Buttons.

Kelli chose to go simple, with this cardstock based card. Using the single bold color really draws your attention to the snowflakes. Rightly so she flipped the sentiment above the snowflakes otherwise the card would look too bottom heavy. Simply stunning card, and loving that bucket too!

Card by Kelli Smith
Supplies: Martha Stewart snowflake punch, brazzill kiss and angel cardstock, STampin' up friend stamp, STaz on red stamp pad

As usual hook my up in the comments if you use the sketch as I love to come check them out!

Enjoy!!!

Sharing photo's

Tuesday, November 20, 2007

As you all know my parents were here in October and I haven't shared a single photo. So here are a couple that I've quickly resized today. And yes I rolled my Jeans up and walked barefoot on the sand (again). I don't care that it looks goofy, I love the feel of the sand on my feet...

Mum and Dad at Ventura Beach

Mum and Me at Ventura Beach (taken by Dad)

Me at the beach (taken by Mum)

My parents goofin around

Me and Bob at the Planetarium (taken by Mum)

I have a ton of pics to sort through but wanted to post SOMETHING from their stay. Like I said though, we didn't go out many places. I have one great photo of Dad that I took, but I used it for a layout and don't want to share incase it gets picked up fo publication (fingers crossed for me cos I LOVE it, probably my favorite layout ever that I've made).

Others things I've noticed looking at the photo's: Mum takes lots of blurry photo's. Dad doesn't take many photo's at all. Neither have grasped the concept of digital photography and that they ARE allowed to take more than one shot of a scene (even though they laughed at me taking 10 shots of the same thing, they aren't laughing now finding Mums blurry pics of me and the dogs). I wear my hair tied back a lot. I am putting on weight (shut up Bob!). I take lots of pics of animals... zoo pics coming soon!

Card sketch coming tomorrow!

Card share - seasonal stuff

Monday, November 19, 2007

Just some cards done over the weekend. Did these for a challenge at Scrap-Diner. They had a weekend crop, and although I couldn't take part as much as I would have liked (lots to do) I got the card challenge done! The challenge was to make fall, thanksgiving or thank you cards.

Cardstock: DCWV; Patterned Paper: Luxe; Stamp: Studio G; Chipboard: Heidi Swapp; Brads: MM;

Supplies: DCWV papers and rub-ons; Bazzill cardstock

Happy to say that even though I didn't take part that much in the crop (other than cheering squad) I did win a RAK! Which is cool.

Loving everyone's cards with the latest sketch! You are rocking it! Have to say I loved this one too, hence the 5 (I think that's my count now) cards I've done with this sketch. Plus next weeks is another favorite and so far I think I'm only up to 4 with that one! *sigh* though I have a few days to the next reveal!

More creations coming soon!

Card Share - thinking of you!

Sunday, November 18, 2007

Sharing another card today. This is the same paper as yesterday, just the reverse side. One of the great things about double sided papers - you get double the creative opportunity!

Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned Paper: Luxe; Stamp: Fiskars; Ribbon: MM; Flower: Prima; Dots: Cloud9; Ink: Around the Block;

Last month I had a little sanding phase, well this month seems to be inking. Usually I am so not a technique-y scrapper but I seem to be going through a phase a month. Fortunately I have lots of ink. Been using the antiquing tools from Around the Block. Definitely less messy than ink pads! Finally used my Cloud9 Rain dots on this card. Got them in a RAK earlier this year and finally getting around to using them!

Back tomorrow with more creations!

Card Share - Special Day

Saturday, November 17, 2007

Sharing another card today. Another project using the ZingBOOM SIStv kit "Whimsy Woods" for the EDS blog. The patterned paper is from the kit. Using the leftovers :) cos you know that's my rule now! This is using my sketch from Wednesday.

Cardstock: DCWV; Patterned Paper: Luxe; Flower: Prima; Button: Misc; Ink: Around the Block; Font: Euphonigenic

Hybrid card, using computer fonts printed onto cardstock. One of the more simpler hybrid techniques but worth it's weight in gold for customizing your own sentiment! And as usual (like so many cards) it looks better in real life. The flower looks really bright on here and it isn't I swear! It's almost the exact color of the pp!

Back tomorrow with more creations to share!

Clearly Hyrid is for you!

Friday, November 16, 2007

The biggest trend right now in the scrapworld is all things clear. From transparent albums, ghost alphas and shapes, transparencies to acrylic pieces. There is also a way to make these projects hybrid by printing your own transparencies. You can buy transparency sheets from office supply stores, ensuring you get ones suitable for your printer (for example: ink jet transparencies for an ink jet printer). They aren't for the frugal scrapbooker, a pack of 10 sheets will cost you around $10 - $15, but they are definitely a cheaper alternative than buying them pre-printed.

Printing your own transparencies bring you many options, pros and cons. Firstly the cons. Obviously you're using your printer so you are limited to the size of your printer. There isn't any way I am going to fit a 12 x 12 sheet into my 8.5 x 11 printer. Also the print quality. Whilst the quality is only going to be as good as your printer, it isn't going to be as good printed on transparency and layered over dark colors. The home printed ones tend to lose their 'pop' against dark colors. This is because the manufactured ones are double printed. First with a light color, then with the end color. This gives the manufactured transparencies a richer, deeper color especially noticeable when layered against dark papers.

For me though the pros far outweigh the cons. The pros of printing your own? Well naturally you can design anything your heart desires! Whatever you can create in Photoshop, or whatever journaling you write in your word processing program, you can print off onto a transparency. For me this freedom alone is worth it. There are many times I've seen transparencies in the LSS and wished it just said something different, or wanted a different font, and printing my own gives me that choice! One thing to remember when printing your own transparencies is that just like photo paper there are two sides. One side is usually a little shinier and the other has a more matte finish. Each pack usually has an instruction sheet, but generally you would print on the more matt side.

My friend Robin made this by printing her journaling onto a transparency. She cut a window into the cardstock and adhered the transparency behind it. This means that the whole panel is see though! I love that! Really goes well with the theme of the layout, the eyes being the window to the soul, hence the transparent window in the layout. Very cool!

Layout by Robin Blankenship.
Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill, Flowers: Queen & Co

So there you have it, next time you are out shopping for office supplies, check and see if there are any transparency packs you can pick up. Then you can print your own at home! Try it! You may be surprised at how easy it is!

Signs of fall

Thursday, November 15, 2007

So does it feel like fall where you are? Here in Southern California I don't think the weather knows WHAT to do! Seriously! It's cold for a few days, we turn on the heat, and throw on the comforter. Then days later it's back in the 90's and we have the a/c on! No wonder everyone is coming down sick.

Anyway here is a hybrid layout I can share. Used the ZingBOOM kit for SIStv. Loved the SEI papers (seems to be my SEI month!), they are sponsoring the EDS blog this month along with April Stalker (more to come with her digital products soon!). Yes, that is INKING you can see on the edges, no-one faint!

Supplies: Scrap in Style kit; Journal panel by April Stalker "signs of fall" kit; Misc. Brads; Ink: Around the block; "autumn" ribbon slide: dollartree;

The cutie pie in the photo is my friend Nancy's daughter, Bella. More projects with the SIS kit coming soon!

In other news I made bread yesterday! We've had a breadmaker a while and though the bread is ok with it, I hate that the centre has a huge hole where the mixer 'blade' is and ruins slices of bread. Well many months ago we got this silicone bakeware set from Costco, and well long story short I did the mixing in the bread machine and baked it in the silicone bread pan. This is the result!

No more buying loaves for us! Definitely worth the extra little effort. And I get to say "I made this!"

Back tomorrow with more creative stuff...

Card Sketch Nov #2

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Hey it's Wednesday! Where did Tuesday go? Did you miss me? Bob came home early on Monday with a bug, turned out to be some 24 hr thing, which I promptly came down with yesterday lunchtime. Dizzy spells, headache, nausea, feverish and just plain yukky. Went to bed early last night and feel much better this morning. So apologies for no blogging yesterday. I had a great Tuesday morning if that counts? Ok onto this weeks card sketch. As usual the digital template is available for download here

Love this one. I've been thinking about things more when I'm making the sketches, what techniques could I add. Is it balanced. Shall I put the sentiment here, here or here, or leave it off completely? Remember the sketch is just a starting point, just something to inspire you. You can follow it as is, or switch it up, change it around, just play with it! Here is my card from this weeks sketch.

Supplies: Paper: SEI (paisley & petals); Rub-on: Karen Foster

As usual I sent the sketch out the card sketch girls a week early and here are their creations! Love this card by Kelly, yellow is such a great fun color for a card and really pops off the white. Don't you love the embossed cardstock? Makes me want to drag my embossing tools out from my stash.

Card by Kelly Nelson
Supplies: Supplies: Stampin Up Ink, polka dots and paisley stamp, organza ribbon and cardstock, scrap patterned paper, versamagic and versamark inks, peelcraft alphas, pebbles inc chalk

Great hybrid card from Wendy. Love the matching paper and flower image. The lacy trim really adds a great touch! Love how she pulled the colors into each element on the card.

Card by Wendy McGlinchey
Supplies: Image and patterned papers from the Joanna Sheen 'Say it with Flowers' CD, white card base, black card, a length of lace, sticky backed pearl, stamped greeting.

Loving the stitching on Jolene's card! The felt accent really works well with the color scheme and papers. Perfect card for the fall, or thanksgiving.

Card by Jolene Johnston
Supplies: Paper Reflections cardstock, My Mind's Eye papers, Colorbox chalk inks, Queen & Co. felt ribbon, machine stitching

Love this card by Jo! Too cute, great use of the Heidi Grace papers, perfect for a baby girl card. The circle embellishment really works well on this card too!

Card by Jo Willis
Supplies: DCWV cardstock, Heidi Grace (baby girl) paper, Heidi Grace sticker, Heidi Swapp chipboard alphabet, American Crafts rub-on. White Signo pen, Papermania gems and unknown brand of ribbon.

Love this digital card from Angela. Totally fun, great accents and what a fun daisy trim! And loving the digital glitter!!!

Card by Angela Shetzer

Pearl as always brings her own style into any card! Totally fun, fresh and funky! I love the paper paired with the felt flower and button embellishment! Too cool!

Card by Pearl Liu
supply list : Bazzill CS , SEI Ally's Playgroup pp & ribbon , O Scrap felt flower , SEI Hippie Chick button, Deja View sticker sentiment

After a couple of weeks vacation Mom is back on the card making! Yep for those that didn't know my Mom is on my sketch team. I love the green and white, and that flower really pops off the page! Great job!

Card by Linda Flinders

As usual hook me up in the comments if you do the sketch and I'll come check it out!
