Card share: Party Time!

Sharing a card I made this week, using stuff left out on the scrap table before I put things away and moved onto other projects. So yep all stash again! Love that! Though no-one is allowed the mention the box of stuff I purchased from scrap-diner ok? The bulk of it was an American Crafts D-ring albums, along with some of the Scenic Route Asheville (which I LOVE!). I'm considering that a gift to myself for using up a fair bit of stash lately. Plus it seemed rude to just order an album!

Card Share - Thanks

Another card I made with this weeks sketch, and paper from the SIStv kit (sponsoring the EDS blog this month). Can you believe I still have some of this patterned paper left? Tried forever to make this card work, then I found this scrap of turquoise cardstock in my scraps and it just fell together! Typical! The rub-ons are OLD (and were a PITA to get off the backing sheet!). Infact the ONLY new thing is the paper, everything else is at least 6 months old.

As you can see the alpha rub-ons are a mix of upper and lower case, ordinarily this would BUG the heck outta me, but I'm letting it go. It doesn't have to be perfect! Keep telling myself that! Now to just resist the urge to rub off the letters and stamp it instead! lol!

In other news I have some happy emails in my inbox! Couple of cards got picked up for publication, so doing my happy dance today! Means I've had to remove some things off the blog so sorry about that.

Card Sketch Nov #4

So great to see everyone enjoying the sketches! I think I am almost caught up on comments from last weeks sketch, some great cards with that (and the embellishment challenge - go button users!!!). This was one of those occasions where I doodled out the sketch first, THEN made the card, but you can tell it's the sketch. I really am doing great using my scraps up! This pp scrap has been sitting in my scrap pile for quite a while! And yes, darn inking again!!! Just had to! Any bets on what my next technique phase will be? lol!

Card Share: Scrapbooking.com

This month I had 2 cards in the scrapbooking.com ezine. First time I'd submitted to them, but I am loving their ezine! I submitted 2 cards with Boxer Scrapbooks manufacturer product and they published both.

Ok you can't tell that well on this pic but the circle is a transparency. Boxer do some awesome transparencies. Oh and loving this holiday text paper!

Quick card I made for fall last month. Actually made this to send to my parents, set it aside and promptly lost it under a pile of patterned paper. Had these green Prima flowers for a while, just waiting for the right project. Oh and did you see? Inking again! Yep it's official, it's definitely a n inking phase!

Scrap & Stamp arts Dec 07

Nice little surprise in my mail Friday, getting this mag from Scott publications with my card published in it! First time with this mag (though they also own mags I have previously been published in) so super excited about that. And I think this is my first stamped card published!

Cool! Loving the one heart... one mind pink paper line. It's actually from their latest Christmas line "Merry Merry Too"! But the papers work great for other occasions too! Here is a closer look at the card (and matching envelope that they didn't print).

So I'm working on stuff for December and February right now. Some projects with Scrapworks product and some miscellaneous product (stash) for Valentine projects. Did 2 altered things over the weekend alone.

Sharing: Hybrid

Got busy this weekend. Ended up getting slightly sidetracked and making a couple of hybrid cards with the Damon kit by April Staker. Used this weeks card sketch again!

I have to say I've been wanting to use these rub-ons a while. The circle rub-ons are from Joanns (approx 1 - 2 years ago!). Ones that I just put aside thinking I'd get around to using them but never did. The sentiment rub-on I just rubbed each letter individually from the word, carefully rotating around the the circle punches.

Sharing: Digital...

Just some projects done with the EDS sponsor for November April Staker. First up is a CD case insert. Done digitally in photoshop and just printed out. Quick and easy project. The biggest thing was the journaling in a circle to fit the patterned paper. The CD is currently on it's way to Mum and Dad loaded with all the photo's I took whilst they were here. Had a CD burning issue whilst they were here but that's resolved now.

And a layout with the Jolly Holidays kit. Beautiful kit, with some papers and embellishments to fit any occasion, plus some holiday themed pieces. Love the diagonal striped paper and the big ribbon. The photo fit well with the colors in the kit.

Embellishment challenge!

Well we had a good Thanksgiving. Lots of food, good company and fun times with "rock band" the game. Bob and I are thinking of getting our own for the X-box 360. At the end of the night Bob was hoarse (vocals), my arm was sore (guitarist) and Gautam's back was aching (drums). We have food and drink left over but we'll be taking some to Gautams place later where we'll continue our world tour and search for fame and fortune! "Rock Band" rocks, if you get chance try it!

Well as I said earlier this month I was thinking about doing some general challenges this month to get you to use your stash (just like I am) so here is the first challenge. Buttons! If you're like me you have tons of the things and this weeks sketch really lends itself well to using buttons so grab your button stash and start creating!

TIP: You don't have to sew buttons on! Just grab some glue dots and stick them on! Trust me mine have NEVER fallen off!

TIP: If you like the look of tied buttons, tie the twine through before you stick them on!

Thanksgiving Thursday!

Happy Thanksgiving! It's close to dinner prep time for me. Gotta get the potatoes cooking and sort out the Tofurkey. For main dinner today we have Gautam, Srikanth and Sandeep, who are arriving in 2 hours. They are bringing their PS3 and 'rock band' so should be fun. Later tonight we have more guest coming for a potluck kinda deal. Here is a card to brighten up todays post:

Card Sketch Nov #3

Happy Thanksgiving-eve! Another Wednesday and another favorite sketch from me! Expect to see this one a few times in the next week or so, I cannot stop using it! Much like last weeks sketch. Simple yet stunning this one. As usual the digital template can be downloaded here.

I have to say this is a design I've used before, and loved. I purposefully left design simple as there are lots of ways to interpret this one. The circles are a suggestion for embellishment placement. For my first card with this sketch (more to come soon, stretching them out over a few days) I used these chipboard circles from SEI. Perfect for this sketch really.

Sharing photo's

As you all know my parents were here in October and I haven't shared a single photo. So here are a couple that I've quickly resized today. And yes I rolled my Jeans up and walked barefoot on the sand (again). I don't care that it looks goofy, I love the feel of the sand on my feet...

I have a ton of pics to sort through but wanted to post SOMETHING from their stay. Like I said though, we didn't go out many places. I have one great photo of Dad that I took, but I used it for a layout and don't want to share incase it gets picked up fo publication (fingers crossed for me cos I LOVE it, probably my favorite layout ever that I've made).

Others things I've noticed looking at the photo's: Mum takes lots of blurry photo's. Dad doesn't take many photo's at all. Neither have grasped the concept of digital photography and that they ARE allowed to take more than one shot of a scene (even though they laughed at me taking 10 shots of the same thing, they aren't laughing now finding Mums blurry pics of me and the dogs). I wear my hair tied back a lot. I am putting on weight (shut up Bob!). I take lots of pics of animals... zoo pics coming soon!

Card share - seasonal stuff

Just some cards done over the weekend. Did these for a challenge at Scrap-Diner. They had a weekend crop, and although I couldn't take part as much as I would have liked (lots to do) I got the card challenge done! The challenge was to make fall, thanksgiving or thank you cards.

Card Share - thinking of you!

Sharing another card today. This is the same paper as yesterday, just the reverse side. One of the great things about double sided papers - you get double the creative opportunity!

Last month I had a little sanding phase, well this month seems to be inking. Usually I am so not a technique-y scrapper but I seem to be going through a phase a month. Fortunately I have lots of ink. Been using the antiquing tools from Around the Block. Definitely less messy than ink pads! Finally used my Cloud9 Rain dots on this card. Got them in a RAK earlier this year and finally getting around to using them!

Card Share - Special Day

Sharing another card today. Another project using the ZingBOOM SIStv kit "Whimsy Woods" for the EDS blog. The patterned paper is from the kit. Using the leftovers :) cos you know that's my rule now! This is using my sketch from Wednesday.

Hybrid card, using computer fonts printed onto cardstock. One of the more simpler hybrid techniques but worth it's weight in gold for customizing your own sentiment! And as usual (like so many cards) it looks better in real life. The flower looks really bright on here and it isn't I swear! It's almost the exact color of the pp!

Clearly Hyrid is for you!

The biggest trend right now in the scrapworld is all things clear. From transparent albums, ghost alphas and shapes, transparencies to acrylic pieces. There is also a way to make these projects hybrid by printing your own transparencies. You can buy transparency sheets from office supply stores, ensuring you get ones suitable for your printer (for example: ink jet transparencies for an ink jet printer). They aren't for the frugal scrapbooker, a pack of 10 sheets will cost you around $10 - $15, but they are definitely a cheaper alternative than buying them pre-printed.

Printing your own transparencies bring you many options, pros and cons. Firstly the cons. Obviously you're using your printer so you are limited to the size of your printer. There isn't any way I am going to fit a 12 x 12 sheet into my 8.5 x 11 printer. Also the print quality. Whilst the quality is only going to be as good as your printer, it isn't going to be as good printed on transparency and layered over dark colors. The home printed ones tend to lose their 'pop' against dark colors. This is because the manufactured ones are double printed. First with a light color, then with the end color. This gives the manufactured transparencies a richer, deeper color especially noticeable when layered against dark papers.

For me though the pros far outweigh the cons. The pros of printing your own? Well naturally you can design anything your heart desires! Whatever you can create in Photoshop, or whatever journaling you write in your word processing program, you can print off onto a transparency. For me this freedom alone is worth it. There are many times I've seen transparencies in the LSS and wished it just said something different, or wanted a different font, and printing my own gives me that choice! One thing to remember when printing your own transparencies is that just like photo paper there are two sides. One side is usually a little shinier and the other has a more matte finish. Each pack usually has an instruction sheet, but generally you would print on the more matt side.

My friend Robin made this by printing her journaling onto a transparency. She cut a window into the cardstock and adhered the transparency behind it. This means that the whole panel is see though! I love that! Really goes well with the theme of the layout, the eyes being the window to the soul, hence the transparent window in the layout. Very cool!

So there you have it, next time you are out shopping for office supplies, check and see if there are any transparency packs you can pick up. Then you can print your own at home! Try it! You may be surprised at how easy it is!

Signs of fall

So does it feel like fall where you are? Here in Southern California I don't think the weather knows WHAT to do! Seriously! It's cold for a few days, we turn on the heat, and throw on the comforter. Then days later it's back in the 90's and we have the a/c on! No wonder everyone is coming down sick.

Anyway here is a hybrid layout I can share. Used the ZingBOOM kit for SIStv. Loved the SEI papers (seems to be my SEI month!), they are sponsoring the EDS blog this month along with April Stalker (more to come with her digital products soon!). Yes, that is INKING you can see on the edges, no-one faint!

In other news I made bread yesterday! We've had a breadmaker a while and though the bread is ok with it, I hate that the centre has a huge hole where the mixer 'blade' is and ruins slices of bread. Well many months ago we got this silicone bakeware set from Costco, and well long story short I did the mixing in the bread machine and baked it in the silicone bread pan. This is the result!

No more buying loaves for us! Definitely worth the extra little effort. And I get to say "I made this!"

Card Sketch Nov #2

Hey it's Wednesday! Where did Tuesday go? Did you miss me? Bob came home early on Monday with a bug, turned out to be some 24 hr thing, which I promptly came down with yesterday lunchtime. Dizzy spells, headache, nausea, feverish and just plain yukky. Went to bed early last night and feel much better this morning. So apologies for no blogging yesterday. I had a great Tuesday morning if that counts? Ok onto this weeks card sketch. As usual the digital template is available for download here

Love this one. I've been thinking about things more when I'm making the sketches, what techniques could I add. Is it balanced. Shall I put the sentiment here, here or here, or leave it off completely? Remember the sketch is just a starting point, just something to inspire you. After a couple of weeks vacation Mom is back on the card making! Yep for those that didn't know my Mom is on my sketch team. I love the green and white, and that flower really pops off the page! Great job!
