Review: Adorn It

Thursday, June 14, 2007

Our June sponsor at Treasures to Scrap is Adorn It/Carolee's Creations. Now I am going to confess here that I wasn't that familiar with their products prior to this month so I welcomed the chance to work with new (to me) product!

Whenever I get my Design Team boxes its always a little slice of heaven opening them. Especially so when I'm not 100% certain exactly WHAT is inside! Tracy (TTS owner) always tailors the parcels, so I'm not stuck with Baby paper or something I can't use, so imagine my joy at finding MOTORCROSS papers! How perfect! I got rev it up and bike tracks papers, which just suited me FINE!

At first I was a little peeved cos the papers had red and green as accent colors and well MY bike is blue, my gear is blue, all blue. Would have looked ok I guess but I remembered Bobs old Kawasaki! GREEN! PERFECT! So I got the pics sorted, printed and the page fell together! Love that it doesn't need much else in the way of accents! Title is already done too! Heck even men could do this *wink*

Supplies: Patterned paper - Adorn It; Chalk - craf T; pen - zig; rub-on - DCWV;

After the layout I had plenty of paper and scraps left over so I made this tag book. Been in quite a tag book phase lately, the seem to be popping up quite a bit in my creating. So quick and fun to make, great gifts too! The only problem I found AFTER the fact is that I have waaaaaay too much journalling to include on the tags. If you read Tuesdays bike post you'll see what I mean. I have some paper left over so I may make a journal, or mini book or something.
Supplies: Patterned paper - Adorn It; Rub ons - DCWV, MME & Dollartree

Used Autumn Leaves journaling stamps, and *SHOCK* my own handwriting!

The Adorn It papers came as 2 "packets", themed and non-themed. My non-theme was the Amber Collection. Loving these papers, so colorful and fun! Again Tracy knew which ones to pick for me! love her to bits, she knows me so well!

I was initially thinking water photo's when I started working with these papers but it kinda evolved into a page about goats. Why goats? The journaling should be readable if you click the image.

Supplies: Patterned Paper: Adorn It; Cardstock: DCWV; Ribbon: Adorn It; Stamps: Adorn It; Ink: Tim Holtz; alpha sticker: dollartree; Font: bitstream vera sans;

When I got these Amber papers I knew immediately they'd be fun for a journal. I love altering journals, and books. This one is for me, an altered composition book. I haven't been journaling at all this year, and well I miss it. I was going to continue in my old journal, but decided to make myself a fun new one! Sometimes I need reminding that there are NO RULES to this, that I can stop and start journalling as I please, and it's ok. Anyway LOVING the colors and the cute ribbon!
Supplies: patterned paper - Adorn It; Ribbon - Adorn It; Tape - Heidi Swapp; Chipboard alpha - Lil David; Alpha sticker - American crafts;

Altering the inside covers is just something I HAVE to do. Especially in the composition books where it's preprinted stuff on the inside covers. Prettied up with patterned paper! Love the Heidi swap tape with these papers too! Perfect!

Oh I should also mention their stamps!!! Got these back in March I beleive when we got our quarterly DT boxes. I bought them myself, cos well I figured try everything Di! And like I need an excuse to buy more stamps? I bought the Stylin Sandra set totally cute!
They are acrylic stamps and so fun! When I get the DT sponsor boxes, I sort them by month and then use them as required, so I naturally forgot totally about these little babies till last month when I opened the pack in preparation for June! What a lovely surprise! Great stamps! Cling great, stamp perfect images and super duper easy clean up! Definitely on my top stamps list! (expect to see lots of these over the next few months!)

If I could change ONE thing about the patterned paper I'd make it double sided. I like a solid color on the reverse of my prints. I'd rather pay a little extra and get that doubled sided paper. The ribbon was perfect, loved the quality and the print, too cute! Matched the papers perfectly!

In all I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Adorn It sponsor this month! I still have plenty of paper left over (including some not shown here - the discover stripes, very cute!) so hopefully should I get chance more projects to come! I've been using Adorn It for the cards this month too.

Black and Blue!

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

That's my thigh right now! Yep I took another tumble (ok two) Sunday whilst out on the trails riding my bike. All I can say is it's a good job I love it! We went out to Rowher and took off on a 3 1/2 hr ride. Went up the mountain run, which honestly I find pretty easy now and then over the top and down a triple blue run called Bouquet Trail, totally twisty turny and rocky, which leads to another series of trails at Drinkwater flats (where do they get these names from?).
Me at Drinkwater Flats

Did some trails around there including this HUGE steep downhill one which I amazed myself at! I think the thing was that these hills kinda creep up on ya sometimes, and well I didn't have time to think about it. Kicked it into first and just let the engine brake me on the way down, but DANG look at that hill! (it was actually steeper than it looks here!)
I Conquered the hill! Yep I rock!

This was my first outing to Drinkwater flats, but I have to say it ROCKS! Love the open feeling on this side. The trails seem much better too. Not so many big rocks trying to jump out and get ya! Now we just have to figure out how to get to this parking area from the main road, well... ok we just need to find the main road that leads to here!
Ready for anything after the hill!

Naturally this whole thing wasn't a loop like last week, we had to reverse and go all the way back cos we were in a completely different area entirely. I was not looking forward to the Bouquet Trail uphill but was willing to give it a go.

First problem was when I took a bad line and ended up doing a wheelie up a rocky part (again , this is not the first time!) and got into trouble. Ended up splatted by the bike. Honestly I'm not even sure what really happened, except that the bike ended up coming down on me, and the kickstart dug in my left leg. A feat in itself considering its on the right side of the bike! My eyes smarted big time! Some choice swear words were uttered, and Bob sorted the bike out whilst I limped off to see if I could walk (I could).

Second tumble I had involved crest of a jump thing, why they put these things in there is anyones guess! Apparently they are to hold back the dirt to stop corrosion - likely story! More like Di traps! Anyway I was going a little fast, came over the crest/jump and just kinda fell off the edge. A handy dandy bush stopped me and I fell. Bob came to my rescue again cos I couldn't get the bike up back onto the trail. *sigh* Good job he loves me huh? My knight in... dirty and dusty blue (and green and black) armor!

Dusted myself off and got back on the bike. Bob saw I was ok and continued on. Started off ok, then I realised I had problems. Initially I wasn't sure what but I was putting the bike into neutral from first (instead of second). Oh yes that would be because I couldn't GET into second! Yep I'm riding up a mountain for the next 5 minutes trying to get Bobs attention whilst trying to figure out why I have no other gears. Eventually got him to stop and apparantly the last tumble had bent my gear shifter. Bob bent it back though. And as I was still on the bike whilst he did, I'm not counting it as a "getting me out of trouble" scenario! As far as I'm concerned that was purely mechanical! So I made it the rest of the way up Bouquet with only a few minor wobbles.

All I can say is THANK YOU (insert diety of choice) that no-one else was on that trail! Seriously I may have wet my pants if I'd seen another rider coming the other way! It was soooo narrow that I doubt passing for me would have been an option. What I cannot understand is that this is a triple blue? I did triple blues last weekend (and some single blacks), and yes I fell off BUT they weren't nearly as tricky as this triple blue! Apparantly not all triple blues are created equal!
Sign for Bouquet! Yep NO ATVs! Way too narrow for an ATV!

The narrow trail, combined with twists and turns and the dang ROCKS! Ok no not rocks BOULDERS would be more accurate. Then the erosion barrier things (jumps if you ask me!). TRICKY TRICKY TRICKY! But... DONE!

Took a short break at the top, then headed down to the Rowher side and back to the truck. Unfortunately by this time my thigh was killing me, remember the kick start dug into me during my fall? Well I got changed and I already had swelling and the blue of a bruise coming through along with a nice 4" scrape down my leg.

That was Sunday. I am now the proud owner of a HUGE bruise (still swollen too) on my thigh. For some reason in almost the EXACT place I had one earlier this year when I fell off at Gormon (Hungry Valley). Very black and very blue, with a lovely shade of purple thrown in for good measure.

Until the next trail adventure!

Review: Kim Johnson

Saturday, June 9, 2007

This month digital sponsor at Treasures to Scrap is Kim Johnson. We got to pick out our own kits which is always good, and I have to say I had a blast with her products! Her store is full of great kits, element packs and templates. Each with its own unique texture. I do think that her textures are unbelievable! Love the detail on each paper!

My first kit was the Valentine kit. Now I chose this purely because I loved the dotted paper (I think I mentioned my dotted paper obsession in another post recently). I also loved the wordart and bread tag embellishments. Just some fun accents in this kit.

The layout I did with the valentine kit took me out my box. I really am feeling a change regarding layouts lately. Anyway I just LOVED that brad heart and had to make a feature of it! Used Kim's papers for the merged overlay and her embellishments. Same thing with the LOVE wordart. I thought this pic was perfect for the quote too!

This layout is a little tongue in cheek. I don't really have many valentine/love type photo's but I just loved the colors in the kit and couldn't resist it! I am loving notebook paper just lately! Shelle Pukas has some in her kits and I cannot stop using that one either! Made the scallop paper myself using a template I made, fun!

My second kit was the Friends kit. Fell in love with the colors in this, and knew it would be perfect for a layout of me, Nancy and Robin. I used this kit for the layout I did on June 1st with my template freebie.

I just had to get these pics from Robin. She'd done a layout recently of us three, and I knew this friends kit would be perfect for it! The soft colors paired with the pop of brown really suits black and white or sepia photo's.

The papers in the friends kit proved quite versatile though! I loved the blues and the dotted paper in this kit! I thought the colors were perfect for pics of me and my bike! The vellum quote box was just the perfect touch for adding journaling without taking away from the flow of the layout. Simple yet effective!

Kim Johnson is having a contest this month to celebrate her 2 year digital designing anniversary, and she's giving away this free mini kit! I blogged about it Tuesday. Such a fun kit!

Had to take part in her challenge and create a layout using it! Loved the fun colors! I think I'll be using these buttons a lot too! I combined this challenge with a sketch challenge of Lucy's, a two for one challenge layout!

I really want to use the kits some more, especially the awesome torn cardboard pack and Christmas kit but I also wanted to let everyone know that her store has 40% off right now! Not sure how long that offer lasts so make the most of it!
