project 101 and tagged

Friday, March 27, 2009

Completely craft free post for today, kinda. I mentioned the project 101 in 1001 last week and I have to mention that I achieved one of my goals :) Last Friday I ran for 3 miles on the treadmill, technically this was the second time as I ran the 3 miles the week before but according to my training schedule it should be last week! I just got carried away with the ipod tunes! I got a pic of the treadmill display but the display was on incline reading not mileage, doh! Didn't even think to check that, I was just so excited! Anyway that's one item off my list! Naturally I needed a photo for my self portrait a month part of the project so here I am after running the 3 miles (and walking for a cool down). Ignore the sweaty hair and red face, I just ran 3 miles remember!

Today I upped the program and ran for 3 1/2 miles, wow so much harder to do that extra half mile! I really really want to stick with this but know that I am gonna have to change the routine soon. It's already getting warm in the day and running at 11am in the Summer is NOT gonna happen. Pondering the decision to make there.

Also I was tagged this week by Renee. Haven't done one of these for a while so here it is: Open your photo folder on your computer • Open the 6th folder of photos • Select the 6th picture • Post the picture on your blog with a description

Well I have folders in folders in folders, so my 6th folder was my: Photo's Oly" folder, 6th folder in their was "March" and 6th Photo was this one. Not very exciting I'm afraid...

This is a photo of some lettuce flowers. The weather warmed up here and my winter crops are going to seed including the lettuce. So I harvested what I could and let the rest flower. Good photo opportunities :) Plus looks pretty too!

The next part of the meme is to tag 6 friends and get them to do it, but I hate that part, I never know who to tag without excluding people. So if you want to join in go ahead :) and post on your blog.

Happy Friday! The weekend is one day away!!!

UHU sketch challenge!

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Are you ready for a challenge? I think I've mentioned that I'm a "UHU gluer" before but the site/blog has moved, and us gluers, well we're getting busy with the UHU and crafting up a storm! I figured I'd lead the way this month with a little challenge and a prize package sponsored by UHU and Saunders Manufacturing! The prize package has a retail value of $30!

For my challenge I had to do a sketch right? So here is the challenge, create a layout using this sketch, link me up in the comments, then on 9th April I'll draw a random winner :) That gives you two weeks to get creating!!! *no digital entries, paper or hybrid only sorry!*

Here is my sample layout using the sketch! Just my DH messing about in the pool. This is a hybrid layout using one of my digital kits. I just printed the parts, cut them out them adhered it all together with some traditional embellishments!

Supplies: Glue roller, twist & glue: UHU; Summer Fun kit by Di Hickman; Flowers: Prima; Misc brad & buttons;

Card Sketch March #4

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Final card sketch for March this week! Wow the weeks go fast don't they? That means the year is 1/4 through already!!! Sheesh! This weeks sketch is inspired by a couple of older sketches that I did in 2007/8. Two sketches smushed together to create a new one :)

Because I had been procrastinating I didn't make this weeks card till late, and then of course I realized that I had no room to create as I'm reorganizing my supplies (moved my BIG desk in!), so I went hybrid. Turned out to be a good move as I love this card :) Must be into hybrid lately as I made this card and a layout recently, then went on to write an article. In a creative groove apparently.

Prima Hybrid - altered

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Going hybrid today! This week I'm using a kit from Valerie Foster which is meant for cardmaking but I used it for a calendar cover, so I guess technically this is digital recycling and I could have used it for Thursdays 'green' post :)

I have to say I ADORE the papers in this kit by Valerie! The designs are just beautiful, I've just been waiting for the right project to use them on. This project is one of those pocket/purse size calendars, I've simply added a new cover and a little of "me" to the look.

Digital Products:
Stone Rose Hybrid card kit (digital) by Valerie Foster @ Prima Hybrid; Prima Fancies #1 by Valerie Foster @ Prima Hybrid;

Physical Products:
Chipmates Inkjet diecut stickers; Chipmates chipboard shapes; Fancie flower from "the bitty bag" #506988; center kisses round 9mm #520717;

Instructions
  1. Unfold the calendar and pop the full length cover (back and front) onto your scanner, and scan @ 300dpi (this saves measuring!)
  2. Using the marquee tool drag a box 1/4" larger than the cover, open a new layer and fill with white.
  3. Open stoneose_card04 from digital kit, drag onto document and resize to fit a front cover. Use a clipping mask to form to the box in step 2.
  4. Make a copy of stonerose_card04 layer, flip horizontally and use for the back cover.
  5. Add MixedFancies_02 from digital files, adding a blending mode: color (turquoise color-picked from stonerose_card-4), place in upper right corner
  6. Print onto cardstock and let dry & cut to size. Assemble cover of calendar
  7. Open stonerose_chipmates, using marquee tool drag a box around the item you want to use, then invert selection and delete. This will avoid printing the rest of the sheet when you only want to print ONE chipmate item.
  8. Add text to tag, print onto chipmate sticker. Let dry then adhere to chipboard chipmate
  9. Adhere chipboard to front of calendar, add prima fancie and center kisses!
Tips:
  • I adhered the chipboard to the front of the calendar ontop of the plastic cover otherwise it'd be too lumpy to get into the plastic cover.
  • The top of the flower was hanging off the edge of the chipboard so I secured it with some pop-dots cut in half giving some support to the flower.
  • Print your chipmate onto paper first, then check the color/text/placement etc is correct before printing onto the sticker sheets.
Hope you like!!!

Project 101 in 1001

Friday, March 20, 2009

I was starting some projects earlier this year, and non felt right, I just wasn't 100% on board with it. I wanted something different but wasn't sure what. I did some research online and decided to join in on the 101 in 1001 challenge! I like this challenge as I can choose whatever I want, document it how I wish, and start whenever I want, the only goal is to achieve your 101 things in 1001 days. Sounds simple right?

As any scrapbooker would, I made an mini album to document the whole thing and will be updating as I achieve the 101 'things' on my list. The list isn't completed yet but it's getting there! This is the album.

Project BACK SOON
Being used for assignment Scrapbooking.com

The album is repurposed for this project. It is in fact a MM catalogue from CHA 2007/8 (not sure which). My vision for this was small (it's 8x8) and colorful, BUT I want it freeflowing. No rules! This album will be something I come back to again and again throughout the next 1001 days.

Supplies: paper, chipboard, rub-ons and stickers: Pink Paislee; Chipboard Alpha: Heidi Swapp; Rub-on alpha & Ribbon: one heart... one mind.

Project BACK SOON
Being used for assignment Scrapbooking.com

Everything just seemed to mesh with the challenge and my needs. The reason I waited till today to start is because of the end date. Starting today my end date in 1001 days will be 16th December 2011, the celebration of my 40th birthday!!! Like I said it all seemed to fit :) This is my intro page, using DCWV 8x8 Whimsy stack, some old TT&T transparencies, ohom rub-ons and Heidi Swapp chipboard alpha's.

Project BACK SOON
Being used for assignment Scrapbooking.com

Although it's not complete I thought I'd share the list so far of the 101 things for my 1001 days. Some are pretty specific, some are monthly/yearly projects and others involve nothing more than my time and energy. I feel I have a pretty good mix of projects. Theme Thursday - Green

Thursday, March 19, 2009

As the theme is 'green' this month and I know what you're thinking "Di, that card is NOT green!", well Miss Doubting Thomas it is! And I don't just mean the leaves! I made this card in December and I was working through some Boxer projects and just used up some scraps to make a quick card (see green!). Anyway whilst making it I decided to just stamp a generic greeting (stamps are green!).

Supplies: Papers, stickers & Stamps: Boxer Scrapbooks; Die cut: Sizzix

However when it came to it in January I needed a birthday card, and at short notice! So I recycled! Does anyone else do this? All I did was cut a new strip of white cardstock adhered it to the card and trimmed it to size. Naturally as it was a small strip I used a scrap from my scrap stash. Then all I did was stamp a new greeting!

Supplies: Papers, stickers & Stamps: Boxer Scrapbooks; Die cut: Sizzix

I don't recycle cards like this often as I usually have a back up stash, but this design was perfect for the recipient and all that needed changing was the sentiment. Of course I could have simply made the card with no sentiment originally and saved some time, but where would be the fun in that? I just struggle to do cards with no sentiment, I'd rather recycle later :)

So have you got a card in your stash that needs a little green touch? Recycle it into something new!

Happy St Patricks Day!

Top o' the mornin' to ya! Hehehe, happy St Patrick's Day! Just popping in to remind ya that my St Patrick's Day kit is available in my digital stores! Nice little mini kit at just $1.95 makes it perfect for the odd page or two to celebrate green beer day! lol!

I made a couple of projects so far with this kit, which I've already shared but nice reminder as to what you can do with a mini kit! First up a hybrid card using last weeks sketch. I love hybrid, especially for cards, makes 'em super easy :)

Next up a layout of Bella Bug, Nancy's daughter. Love these glasses don't you? I seem to be in a layering phase right now. Not usually my style to titl the papers either but I thought the layout needed it :)

Have a great St Patrick's Day everyone!

Happy Birthday Mum!

Monday, March 16, 2009

Just want to say a BIG Happy birthday to my Mum who is another year older (and wiser?) today! Happy birthday Mum! For those not in the know, my Mum lives back in England and so we have an email/web/phone relationship right now. I made her this hybrid card, and the flocked alpha I grunged up just wouldn't come out right on the photo, one of those that looks better IRL. The beige paper is more a pinky beige IRL and the alpha more beige than pink! Lol!

Digital: Beautiful Day kit by Vera Lim; Steel Toe Mary Janes by Vera Lim @ Prima Hybrid; Card template set #3 by Di Hickman;
Prima Physical Product: Center kisses ; Loft 18 burgundy 520045 ; Whispered Words flocked alphabet

Instructions
  • Reduce digital papers to 5"x5" and design digital portion of card, print and set aside to dry.
  • Make a 5"x5" from white cardstock, cut out digital card and adhere to card base.
  • Adhere flocked alphabet, flower, and center kisses.
  • For a unified look I added some chalk to 'dirty up' the white flocked alpha
Remember you can see more Prima Hybrid projects on the Prima blog every Wednesday!

Have a wonderful day Mum!

love

So it's surely time for the March layout sketch? I think so! This is DiAGRAM #62 and free for a limited time in my digital store, so go snag it while you can. The preview is new and something I am playing with, not 100% sure on it yet, but it's a work in progress. Let me know what you think :)

I'm enjoying getting creative with my digital kits lately. I think I've finally found a happy medium between paper, digital and hybrid! Took some time but I think I'm there! Just got to accept the times when you NEED to do a particular medium. Like this template just felt digi to me when I sat down to create, so I picked a photo and got going from there! Love this pic of Bella, Nancys daughter. That girl cracks me up!

Theme Thursday - Green

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Those that know me, know I love to reuse things, whether in scrapbooking, in the house or in the garden. Whenever something is headed for the trash or recycle I stop and think "what could I reuse this for"? I know this idea has been done before, heck I've posted it on my blog before, but the idea needs repeating: check your trash for embellishments!

One of my favorite things is the pop can tabs and garage 'oddments'. Now I don't know how long this has been in my 'little drawer of things to use' but I know I haven't bought soda in our house for a LONG time, so probably about a year old! As are the papers (by Imagination project who haven't been manufacturing paper for over a year!) and the ribbon is a scrap in my ribbon jar that was just long enough for the card :)

Supplies: Paper: Imagination Project; Stamp: EK Success; Ink: CTMH; Misc: Ribbon, Soda tab

In scrapbooking the 3 R's still apply.
  • Reduce the need for new product by using your stash!
  • Reuse products, use scraps, use stamps, and use products from non-scrapbooking sources
  • Recycle products you aren't going to use! Don't trash them! Give them away to friends/familyor freecycle

The newest thing on the card is the ink which I got earlier this year, and the stamp was mid 2008. All this means that YES I am diving into my stash again! After taking some time off from Manufacturer Monday and Stash Saturday I am feeling recharged and ready to tackle the challenges again! I know I need to for sure!

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Yep scallops again this week! Really digging scallops lately on my cards. Just a little scallop here and there really adds a lot to a card doesn't it? This one has a themed sentiment but you can change that up remember! Sketches are just a jumping point for your creativity! Lots of sample cards from the sketch girls so remember to keep scrolling and check them out!

Hybrid card from me this week using my latest kit "St Patrick's Day". I printed this out in 3 parts, cut it out and assembled. Next time I don't know I'd print it separately as I had to cut around the shamrock which was rather fiddly! I like the end result though!
