Back from CHA!

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

All I can say really is WOW! I spent Sunday and Monday at the convention and I am exhausted. I think when people say CHA winter is BIG they don't really explain HOW BIG! Its not big it's HUGE! The first day we didn't manage to walk all the way round, nearly but not quite. Sunday morning I met my room-mate La Tonya who was working at the Stemma booth, we're on a couple of design teams together so got along great! (Just wanna say "Hi" to La Tonya my roomie! Had a great time with ya and I love ya to peices! Expect an email soon! I'll let ya get settled tonight then we'll start chatting again tomorrow!). I then set about introducing myself to the gals at Boxer who were awesome! Loved the booth and all the product and projects, saw my stuff displayed up on the booth which was awesome! Which reminds me I need to upload those projects! I got so wrapped up in CHA prep that I completely forgot! I then went and introduced myself to the One Heart... One Mind team. Now they had an awesome booth! The ladies were really sweet and the new line "formality" ROCKS! Seriously cute paper! Its all black and white patterned paper, with colored solids to make it POP! The new rub-ons too, and some really cute embellishements coming out too! I cannot wait to play with all that! We popped down to Scrappy Chick to see Lynette, Kara and Heidi. Was fun to see all our work being displayed on DVD, and the new Scrappy Chick papers. La Tonya and I just spent the rest of the day ooohing and ahhhing over all the other new stuff. We picked up some goodies, catalogues and hobbled back to the hotel.
Monday we got to the show around lunch. La Tonya was helping out at Stemma for an hour. We met up with Kim Hughes who is soooo cute! Loved her to bits! I also met up with Dora, Bonnie and Michelle from Scrapstreet! Its so great to finally put faces to names! We got in a couple of make'n'takes after we finished walking the floor, most of Monday was spent revisting booths we loved, chatting again with the One Heart One Mind gang who were all just sooo friendly. Love those ladies, I was bummed that I wasn't gonna meet them Tuesday for brunch but I got to meet and chat with them Sunday and Monday and that was great.
Overall CHA was an amazing experience and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat! The highlights of the weekend were meeting La Tonya and all the people from the design teams I am on! Just puutting faces to the emails and message boards. La Tonya and I hit it off right away and honestly I can hardly talk right now, my throat is so sore from chatting the night away with her! Definately fun though!

I am trying to catch up on emails (165 new emails in my inbox this morning! - YIKES!) and I am behind on my message boards. If you sent me an email or message this weekend I am getting around to it ok, might take a day or two to get fully caught up.

Card template tomorrow!

Boxer CHA sneak peeks

Ok time for a few Boxer Scrapbooks sneak peeks! Here are a few of the goodies being released at winter CHA! One thing I have to say about Boxer is I love how they THINK about their new lines and compare them to previous lines, and how they incorporate the colors of the older lines into the new lines so everything can be used together!

First up the new ginghams! Now I'm naturally drawn to a few things, lines, spots, dog products, and gingham. What can you say its timeless! What papers don't look good with gingham? And these colors will go with almost anything! A great staple for the whole of the Boxer line!

Big news for me! New dog papers! Love me some dog products! It is what initially drew me into Boxer products! These look awesome with Black gingham papers (see above!) and they co-ordinate well with papers from previous lines too (like the black/white spotted paper) AND not only that they match the ribbons Boxer released in Novemeber! And black and white! Heck these were MEANT for ME!

Next up: Vroom! Loving these! So cute! And one of the new stamp sets!!! I am definately gonna be using this stamp set at some point on my bike pages! Awesome! And these colors again go great with the blue gingham papers (above!) or the existing Dino line!

Now this line is cute for all those with young kids! What kid doesn't have a trike? Love that this paper comes in bright or pastel colors. I do again love the stamps! Loving the stamps lately, and Boxers are awesome! Now I need to borrow someones kid and a trike so I can use the pretty papers! lol!

More to come!!! I'll be posting more sneak peeks and projects soon!

So today it really hits me...

Thursday, January 25, 2007

I'm going to CHA! Wow! I've known for 10 days but today its like "Wow its THIS Sunday!" holy cow! I am so not prepared! Everyone is offering advice etc and I'm looking through message board posts for hints and tips! Today I went shopping. Got some ink for the printer for doing my portfolio etc (yes I am THAT behind). Picked up a badge holder which I plan to decorate in some way (y'know in my spare time?). Got some water, mints, snacks and stuff for the journey. Printed off directions, and maps of the convention center, apparantly it only takes an hour and 13 minutes! Yeah plus the horrendous LA traffic! I doubt Sunday will be bad first thing in the morning but NOT looking forward to the weekdays, plus coming back is always a nightmare cos of Disney traffic. So yeah, you know, doing all the essential stuff I should have done LAST WEEK! Did I mention its THREE DAYS AWAY! I guess the good news is that once I go to CHA I will no longer be a newbie to it all and I can offer advice and words of wisdom to others going for the first time?

I'm rambling aren't I? yep its a rambling post! Yikes! Ok tomorrow I'll be updating with CHA Boxer stuff, promise! Got a little sidetracked the last couple of days!

On a lighter note email subsribers will be happy to know that I am working on little something for you hopefully coming at the weekend!

Sign ups now available!

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

With the help of Julie Ann I have finally figured out the email notification thing! So sign ups are now live to get blog updates right to your email account! Pretty nifty huh? I'm in the process of adding more stuff, planning more things and generally revamping everything.

New card sketch will be posted tomorrow! Sometime this week I'll also be sharing Boxer projects for CHA. Talking of CHA, my prep is going well! I've decided to go definately on Sunday, and possibly on Tuesday. Not looking forward to driving down in the week but I guess that will all depend on if I get everything that I want done on Sunday (doubtful).

Currently I am working on: a valentine/love digi kit for Imagine Create Scrap!, just putting the final touches to it; Design team and newsletter projects for Treasures to Scrap, Februarys sponsor is Piggy Tales (paper) and Nitwit Collections (digital); Crafty Keepsakes February kit is on its way and features papers from Crate paper and Scenic route, I've seen the kit preview and it looks awesome; Scrapstreet issued their assignment for the March ezine so I have that on my to-do list also!

Happy scrapping!

Yay the new blog is up!

Monday, January 22, 2007

So I've been working on moving the spot-oncreations blog to its new home! And here it is! So update your links, bookmarks etc. I have included a handy dandy little feedburner link over there in the sidebar so you can subscribe through the feed of your choice! Go click it for me see if it works! Also I will (hopefully) be adding an email option so you can get the posts emailed directly to you! Nifty huh? This is assuming I can get everything to work! Darn coding isn't easy!

So what else am I up to? Well I finally put away all my Boxer scrapbooks stuff yesterday! That took a while but its all safely stored away in its own (big) drawer. I really need to have a big purge soon! I still have a box of stuff I need to give to the Toones. Guess now I can add more to it! This morning I sent off my projects for Boxer to display at CHA, should have sneak peaks coming on the blog soon! And yes I am gearing up for CHA! I bought a new pair of pants this morning, still looking for some comfy slightly dressy shoes. Maybe I'll wear my sneakers? I'm trying to go comfy, smart casual, but a little edgy. The new pants rock! I got them on sale too dirt cheap! (no Zoe they didn't have them in your size, in fact I got the last pair!). Currently I am working on some DT newsletter stuff for February as well as getting ready for CHA. This week is gonna go by REAL quick!

My Digital Muse - review

This month at Treasures to Scrap we got spoiled by having TWO digital sponsors! Rina Kroes who I reviewed earlier this month and My Digital Muse. The sponsor was Holly McCaig of My Digital Muse and she sent us this kit "Junk Trunk" which is a team collaboration from all the designers at My Digital Muse! Designers featured in this kit include: Holly McCaig, Kimberly Geswein, KristyAnn Designs, Nancy Comelab, Shannon Lee Designs, and Toni Berman. Let me tell you these gals did a GREAT job! I totally loved this kit. Usually when we don't get to choose our kits I struggle a lot as the kit may not be to my tastes or designs but this kit ROCKS! It has kraft colored papers and browns which are a staple in any scrapbookers arsenal whether digital or paper! The great thing about this kit I loved was the office supplies! The tape, library cards, journalling cards and a message board. Heck they even included a font!

One of my goals for 2007 is to take more photo's. I kicked this off with a photo-a-day challenge and hope to continue this the whole year. I LOVED this kit for documenting those photo's! The everyday photo's! Lets face it what photo isn't going to mesh with these colors? You can never go wrong with Kraft color cardstock! I loved the date 'stamps' and the "from the desk of" stamp! The messy paint effect splotches were the great touch for adding the year, just to make it POP! Of course I had to use the journalling cards! Oh my how I loved these! I've got the autumn leaves journalling stamps and these digital cards just remind me of those, but more edgy.

For my second layout I went with a photo of Bob on his bike. I love the photo (I took it so slightly bias!) and thought it went well with the kit. Makes the green pop! Again not much journalling is needed on this, I'm documenting the photo, date, and location. All I added was the stencil font everything else is in the kit!
I have to say that hands down this kit is one I am going to use LOTS! The journalling cards and kraft papers alone are going to get LOTS of use! Thanks Holly McCaig and all at My Digital Muse! Great kit!

Please link me up with the cards you've made in the comments, I'd love to see them!

Starting from this week I will also be including a digital template of the sketch in .psd format as I'm creating the sketches in photoshop its seems fairly logical to offer the .psd for those digi cardmakers :) this weeks card template: link expired

Its a happy mail day!

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

The UPS truck came at 11.30 and dropped off a box of Boxer goodies! Oh my! That box was HEAVING! I think I about fainted! I'm still digging through it... slowly. Tons of papers (including some new ones!), embellishments, ribbon, stickers, alpha's... and stamps! I feel like I won the lottery or something today! Can't show you anything, but I am wondering where the heck I am gonna store all this! I'm thinking Boxer are gonna be needing their own storage area in here!
I also need to figure out a loose ribbon storage

Still excited about going to CHA! Trying to decide when, which day(s), and what to wear, what to take etc. I think yesterday I was TOO excited and it didn't sink in that I was actually able to go! Now I need to knuckle down and PLAN!

If anyone needs me I'll be knee deep in supplies trying to reorganise or I'll be buried in planning for CHA!

Doing the CHA CHA CHA!

Monday, January 15, 2007

Yep I dancing! Why? I am going to CHA Anaheim! For those not in the scrapbook world that is the craft and hobby association winter trade show! I had been wanting to go for a while but the opportunity just wasn't coming up, and my work is being displayed at THREE booths this year so I figured even if *I* didn't make it, my projects did! Then this morning I get the opportunity to go with one of my design teams! Kimber at Imagine Create Scrap - I love ya gal! You've made my day! Now the show runs from 28th- 31st January so I have 12 days to prepare! Not sure which days I am going yet or how I am getting there but hey I am going! Now I need to go make business cards, a portfolio, probably a small flier, make a list of things to take, get some comfy shoes, and read up on the exhibitors and make a game plan! Yep gonna be a busy 12 days! Plus I need to decide what to wear? Yikes!

Of course all this comes at a price! I doubt very much I'll be entering HOF this year. Unless I get so inspired after CHA that I knock out all of the layouts in the first week of February! Doubtful huh? Anyway this year has already been so freakin awesome, getting my manufacturer DTs and now CHA! How lucky am I?

And to my pal Nancy! Yes I will take pics! Yes I will pop by the SEI booth and fondle the papers for ya! What are friends for?

Review: Cosmo Cricket

Sunday, January 14, 2007

This months paper sponsor at Treasures to Scrap is Cosmo Cricket! I'd been eyeing up their papers for a while and when I heard they were Januarys sponsor I was over the moon! I just love the papers! Initially I will admit to being a little overwhelmed by the distressed look but once you get over the shock of being out your 'box' its quite inspiring! We received the whole Wonderland collection to work with this month! Which includes the double sided cardstock papers, tags, rub-ons and a little mini album (more of that later!). Cosmo Cricket were VERY generous sponsors!
As I don't have that many christmas photo's I was a little intimidated by the theme but I went with it, dove into my photo stash and found some pics that would work. The first layout I did was "jolly", with a photo of me as a child. I worked with it, but I am just not a shabby scrapbooker so the distressed papers threw me out my usual style and I struggled a little. Until I found I found my groove!
This second layout is one I love! I am totally drawn to stripes and spots, more geometric patterns and the simple/clean layouts. I cut apart the paper (something I am doing a lot lately!) and used it as an accent. I think it shows how these papers can work for ALL styles not just the shabby style.
As I said part of the pack included a little 'bitty album' which is totally adorable! It comes flat on a 12x12 sheet and 'pops' out. The sheet also includes some tabs and accent peices. At first I was dumbstruck, what the heck could I use this for? Then I thought about something Bob had said about us maybe going on a little skiing trip sometime soon and I thought hey why not do a mini journal? Sounds good? I left some spaces for journalling or photo's and I totally LOVE IT! We have no firm plans for skiing... yet! But I am ready!
Over the holidays I was in a total altering phase, and this next project came from that phase! Its an altered Pringles tube! Now this could have MANY uses, a gift box, a box to store christmas momento's but it could also be a cool way to store decorations! Think tree baubles! What a great storage idea? I thought so anyway!
Ok and what review wouldn't be complete without cards! I love the vintage feel to these cards, definately this line makes beautiful cards! The first card was featured in the pagemaps November Newsletter as its based on a sketch by Becky Fleck. Love the rich colors in these papers! They really make projects POP!

(The above cards are based on sketches by Linne Faulk Sketches.)

I loved working with Cosmo Cricket products this month for Treasures to Scrap! Definately got me thinking out of my box, and got me scrapping photo's I was putting off and putting off! I have to say my favorite thing was the little album! Its just so cute! Once I got over my fear of "uh oh its all distressed and shabby I can't scrap like that!" I loved the product! It made me realise that just because a paper line is distressed doesn't mean you can't use it on simple and clean projects! Its just a matter of finding the right way to use those papers for you!

Thanks Cosmo Cricket for being such a great sponsor!!! For more projects and ideas see our Cosmo Cricket sponsor gallery at Treasures to Scrap!

Rina Kroes - Review

Monday, January 8, 2007

One of this months digital sponsors at Treasures to Scrap is Rina Kroes. Her digital kits are available at Scrapbook Elements. She has tons of kits to choose from with a variety of themes, I was spoilt for choice! In the end I chose the Remembrance kit.
The Remembrance kit is stunning! Love the soft colors and the vintage feel to this kit, the papers are just beautiful! And such unique embellishments! From the pipe and glasses to the pen! I can't get enough of this kit!

My first layout with this kit is "Lillian". I knew this kit was screaming for vintage photographs and I had this one of my grandmother that was waiting to be scrapped Loved the beaded pins and the floral papers.

The second layout I did with this kit I chose to combine with Misty Cato's template challenge at Treasures to Scrap. I'd missed doing Decembers so I wanted to get right back on track! I'd done a layout of blues and beige so I chose the browns and greens on this one!
The Frames in this kit and embellishment are just stunning! Loved the ribbon slide (must have cos I used it on both layouts!) and the wordart is beautiful! All round a GREAT kit especially for vintage photos!

On top of all that Rina is sponsoring a fabulous contest at TTS this month! The digi do-over contest! Awesome stuff! Thanks Rina!

Five weeks...

Saturday, January 6, 2007

till HOF entries are due! I have done NOTHING! Apart from a little planning. 10 layouts by Feb 13th, can I still do it? I said I would didn't I? Time just got away from me y'know. Five weeks. It IS still possible that I can get my entry in. My reasons for doing HOF are purely for the sake of I can say I tried, I entered. More of a personal goal to enter rather than any hopes of winning. I just want to say I did it! Five weeks... thats two projects a week! I should be able to manage that! I did 8 projects this week! Plus I always say I work better with a deadline!

Its not over till the fat lady sings!!!

Currently working on: DT projects for Treasures to Scrap and Crafty Keepsakes.
Projects completed today: I just finished up some embellishments for the March DT collaboration kit for Scrapstreet! Totally back in the digi zone! Off to create some more stuff!

To do lists and focus!

Friday, January 5, 2007

Its getting smaller! yay! I still have TONS of work to do but the list IS shrinking and that is the main thing! Today I am working on some digital stuff, mostly kit making but we'll see where it leads me. I got a digital layout done yesterday (will share on the 7th) along with a few other projects. I sent my Boxer entry in, and the remaining cards I made that didn't make my entry I submitted to Ready Set Create and they got picked up for the Feb/Mar issue! Yay! I also got 3 cards and 1 layout picked up by scrapstreet this week! All good!

I got my Aezine from Ali Edwards in my inbox this week. In the newsletter she asked us all to pick a word to focus on throughout 2007.

Since I received the newsletter I've been thinking about it and wow I have so many words to choose from, so much I want to DO this year, so much I want to TRY, yet remain BALANCED. I want to CREATE more, not just scrapbooking but photography and other crafts. I want to CHALLENGE myself to TRY new things and experiences. I want to get ORGANISED and have a tidy environment. To do all that I need to FOCUS! Focus on the NOW. So my chosen word is Focus. I have so much I want to acheive in 2007 I need to focus on one thing at a time, not get side-tracked and plan my steps to acheive that goal! Focus!
Thanks Ali! Great newsletter!

Monday, January 1, 2007

2006 has been such a great year! A year filled with changes, growth and discovery. A year which I really am not sure if I can top. That said, I set goals last year so I shall do the same this year. The problem with me is I want to acheive so much in so many area's of my life its hard to focus. So I am setting my scrapping goals here. For 2007 I would like to:
  • focus more on paper publications, with a goal of getting published in paper magazine again
  • challenge myself more
  • create daily
  • write more articles
  • create at least 15 digital kits
  • get on a manufacturer design team
  • define my style
  • enter HOF or MMM or other BIG competition
  • finish my marketing course and ACT on it
  • get my resume site done
Ok those are my goals for year. If you know me you know I am organised and a planner, I love lists. I like babystepping and planning to acheive these goals. So I make monthly goals. For January I want to:
  • complete my Boxer DT finalist entry
  • get caught up on DT stuff
  • reorganise all my 2005/2006 photos to themes
  • 1 photo a day
  • 1 project a day (even if I can't always share it)
