Tutorial Tuesday - invitations step-by-step

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

This week I thought I'd share details on how to make quick and easy invitations using computer fonts, and traditional supplies.

Step 1. Decide on the size of your card, I made mine 4.25" x 5.5", standard invitation size. This makes my information panel approx 3.5" x 4.5". Trim a piece of cardstock to size, and scan into the computer @ 300dpi.

Step 2. Once scanned, crop the image using the crop tool (no need to have unnecessary clutter on the desktop!).

Step 3. Using the text tool add text to the panel, alter the font size, typeface and color. Center all the text inside the panel. Add decorative touches if required, here I just used a row of 7 dots.

Step 4. Print the above image out onto paper. Next hide the scanned layer, the layer with the yellow cardstock. Do that by clicking the "eye" icon on the left side of the layer palette.

Step 5. Using removable adhesive adhere yellow cardstock to the printed paper directly ontop of printed design, and run through printer again. You should end up with the print directly on top of the cardstock piece.

Step 6. Cut white cardstock 4.25" x 11" score in half and fold. This will be the card base. Adhere printed invite to purple cardstock and trim to size leaving small border. Adhere this to the patterned paper, then adhere whole thing to card base.

Step 7. Using a hole punch, punch two 1/8" holes through the FRONT of the invite. I used an anywhere hole punch, but a Cropodile would work too.

Step 8. Take a length of ribbon and thread through holes. The diagram below shows how to thread the ribbon for this effect.
Tip: Nice and simple technique for adding ribbon to a project when you don't have enough to tie into a bow!

Finished project. This could be a folded card invite or a single sheet invite. I always opt for folded so I can put information inside, like a gift list, or directions, depending on the occasion.

Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned Paper Glitz; Ribbon: one heart... one mind; Font: Curlz MT;

Friday freebie winners + digital store news!

Monday, March 17, 2008

Winners of the friday freebie and a $5 coupon to my store are:
  • Stacia: Love your ideas! I'm just getting into scrapping and have been wanting to check out digital scrapping-maybe I'll try if I win!
  • Ally: Wow Di! Those digi papers are gorgeous! Thanks for the chance to win!!
  • FairyMouseMom: How neat of you to do this, Di!
Email me, and I'll get your coupon off to you!

And as I'm announcing winners for my digital store, thought I'd share what's new in the store! First up is everything GIRLY! Now I'm not a girly girl, but I was working with a color palette that led itself to baby kits and so baby girl, and boy kits were designed! This is the "Oh baby girl" kit. 11 papers, 21 elements and 2 alpha sets!

You can see more detail of the kit contents below. This is the "Oh baby girl" paper pack. 11 papers, 5 solid, 6 patterned all baby girl themed. Loving the polka dots and the text papers!

My favorites are the elements! Loving the fabric tag and the crochet flower! Too cute! Everything is themed in pinks, with pops of green and a dash of yellow! "oh baby girl" element pack contains 21 items!

And of course the alpha! I had a little conundrum when doing the alpha. I liked both the stitcker and stitched alpha, so I put both in the "Oh baby girl" alpha pack!

And of course can't leave out the boys! Pretty much the same as the girl kit, except a few element differences and of course this is blues, greens and yellows! "Oh baby boy"!

Again there are 11 papers in the kit, also available as the "oh baby boy" paper pack! Love the textured overlay on these papers!

Tons of embellishments again, 21 items! The "oh baby boy" embellishment pack is packed full! All boy themed, all fun!

Once more with the double alpha! Love the stitched look with the papers, looks great! But the sticker alpha gives more of a modern feel to a page so I put both in the "oh baby boy" alpha pack!

Hope you see something you like!

Manufacturer Monday - Arctic Frog wk 3

Another Monday! Half way through March and the midway point for the Artic Frog Manufacturer Month here on the blog! I have to say I am enjoying this so far, using my stash, lots of stuff to share on the blog, and getting cards done for friends and family! It's awesome!

Anyway here is a card for my younger cousin Luke. One way to use alphabet stickers on cards is to spell out words, or names. I have to say I do love this alphabet font! Also, yet another card based on a sketch from back in December 2006!

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers; Arctic Frog; Coaster: Arctic Frog; Alpha sticker: Arctic Frog; Sentiment sticker: DCWV; Corner Rounder: EK Success;

Basic design for this one. It wasn't going in this direction but before I knew it, it took on a life of it's own! That happens sometimes. The big design on the paper made this one tough to do for the guys, so I just added some flower buttons and called it done!

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers; Arctic Frog; Alpha sticker: Arctic Frog; Buttons: Target;

One thing I noticed when I started looking through my stash for ribbon, is how well this ki ribbon goes with the Arctic Frog papers! Almost like they were meant to be together! As part of this monthly manufacturer challenge I'm making it a point to use STASH.

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers: Arctic Frog; Ribbon: ki memories; Rub-on: Scrap-ease;

Many of the rub-ons I've been using on these cards are from company called Scrap-ease. I found the packs of rub-ons at Dollartree many months ago (could be over a year) and I bought loads. Birthday, congrats, thinking of you, celebrate. Well worth the money and they adhere great. You have to be so careful though with the dollarstore stuff, some of the rub-ons suck!
My tip: Buy one or two packs, get them home, use them and if they are good then go back for more! Or in my case, go to the car, rub them off onto the packet with a coin, see they work great and run back in for more!
Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers: Arctic Frog; Ribbon: ki memories; Rub-on: Scrap-ease;

As I've been mentioning on the Saturday stamping blog posts, one of my goals is to use STAMPS more this year. I got some awesome Ranger ink pads and other stamp goodies recently and I really am itching to put them to use. I love this sketch for stamps, it just works really well in my opinion!

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers: Arctic Frog; Stamp: Purple Sky ltd; Ink: Ranger

More Arctic Frog soon! And I'll be back later this afternoon with another post (yep three in one day!) announcing the Friday freebie winners! So there is still a little while to enter!

St Patricks day

One thing that always makes me smile is the way the Americans thoroughly embrace St Patrick's day. I'm not really sure why, not THAT many of them have Irish decent surely! Any reason to celebrate is good enough I guess? lol! St Patrick's day here in the US is pretty much celebrated to the full, like Valentines day. There are party hats, glasses, gifts, shamrocks EVERYWHERE, and green is the theme for the day! So thought I'd share this St Patrick's day card today

Supplies: Papers & Rub-ons: one heart... one mind; chalks: Craf-T; pen: zig millenium;

Computer font inside card;

Another post coming soon!

You go girl!!!

Today is a special day!

Today is the birthday of one of my card sketch team!

But a very special member of my team....

Today is my Mothers birthday! So HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM! Not gonna say how old she is, 'cos she'd probably kill me, lol. But she is 20 years older than me :)

And for the cardmakers out there, here is a card I made recently for one heart... one mind. Still totally in love with the Sassy line! As you can see this was right in my scallop phase. Honestly I don't think I'm going to grow out of that one!

Supplies: Cardstock: DCWV; Papers, rub-ons, brad: one heart... one mind

More creative stuff tomorrow!

Stamping Saturday - best wishes gift

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Yep two posts in one day! This one is for Stamping Saturday, so if you're looking for the blog party SCROLL DOWN!

Using up every scrap of this Glitz paper with cards this month! I guess this also fits the March theme of birthdays too! I don't claim to be the best stamper in the world, I just don't have the patience, but I AM hoping that doing stamping every week will (a) use my stash, and (b) make me slow down and take more time with techniques.

Supplies: cardstock: DCWV; Paper: Glitz; Stamps: Sarah Beise (gift), Autumn Leaves (dots), Studio G (sentiment); Ink: Clearsnap;

I whipped this one up quick this morning as I realized I hadn't got a stamped project available. And to prove my point about patience, this is the FIFTH stamped image of that gift! The first couple I messed up with finger marks and smudges. Oh and yes, I have ink all over my fingers too. I am such a messy stamper!

More stamping every Saturday!
