Time for some layouts!

Sunday, April 29, 2007

Ok first I want to start off by saying that the last month has been awesome! I've been in a couple of competitions and thought today I'd share scrapstreets competition entries. I didn't win the contest.. however I DID get offered a spot on the ezine team! Don't worry I'll still be having the same content on the blog but there will be some changes, as always change is good! I'm already on their digital team, and hope to get more involved in that too, but this spot is on their ezine team so I'll be writing articles etc.

Ok Round #1 was to scrap 'IT'. 'IT' could be anything, so I chose to go a little tongue in cheek with it. A pic from my self portraits back last year. Almost everything in this digi layout is a freebie!

Credits: shabby princess free digital kit: splended, spring breeze (alpha); font: SP wonderful wendy;dot circle: saskia bokkers

Round #2 we were given the challenge to include 3 numbers in the project. As you can see I met that! This is one of the hybrid layouts I did during the contest and I love it! The middle panel with the photo is all done on the computer and printed. Also see the dotted circles again!

Edit: removed for publication in Scrapstreet June issue!

Supplies: Font: century gothic; cardstock: DCWV; paper: crate paper; chipboard alpha: heidi swapp; photo corners: 3L; paw print: boxer stamp;

Round #3 we had to do a "how-to" article. As I'd done hybrid the previous week I thought I'd do it on hybrid. I did a whole step-by-step on how to create reverse text printing (revamped article from a while back) and created a layout to go with it. Again another current favorite. I'll share the how-to later in the week, trying to get done so I can walk the dogs and crash for the evening!

Edit: Removed for Publication: Creative Techniques Spring 2008

Supplies: font: century gothic; cardstock: DCWV; paper: chatterbox; brad: queen & co; flower: heidi swapp;

Round #4 was a challenge round. I did a sketch challenge (cos you know I love those) created a card and layout sketch and created samples to go with them. I also did the digital templates for each. And I will be offering those on the blog next weekend, national scrapbook day is the 5th May so look for it then!
supplies: cardstock: bazzill; paper: imagination project, chloes closet; stamps: autumn leaves; pen: zig; alpha: making memories velvet alphabet stickers; stitching;

Round #5 the final round. We had to create an article just like you'd see in the ezine with a 'cover' layout. Again I will share that later, I gotta get off here! Dogs crossing their legs! I did my article on the importance of getting US in the layouts and in the photo instead of behind the camera! Again another current favorite! Loving some of the stuff I've been doing this month!
Supplies: cardstock: DCWV; papers: one heart one mind; rub-ons: one heart one mind; photo corner: one heart one mind; chipboard alpha: heidi swapp;

Ok so that's what I've been working on! Lots more to share throughout this week! Layouts from another contest which REALLY pushed me. And I'll share the article, how-to and sketches from scrapstreets contest. Plus the last layout sketch for April. Catch you all tomorrow!

Saturday fun

Saturday, April 28, 2007

busy working on an assignment for one heart... one mind just popping in to say Hi! Bob went out shopping earlier and came back with a present! I got a body armor 'thing' for riding. It has a name, darned if I can remember. Basically back armor, shoulders, elbows, forearm. Bob is out in the garage fiddling with his bike. He had to get one of the forks sorted today as he bust the seal. So hopefully we'll be out on the bikes tomorrow! Yay!
Lots to share soon, some exclusive things that I can start posting elsewhere :) so should be lots of projects on the blog soon. I wanted to leave you with a quote today:
instead of counting time,
make time count!
Food for thought huh? One project I want to do sometime in the future is a mini book with all my favorite quotes in. Might MAKE time to do that soon!
catch you all tomorrow!

Studio Friday - 7 deadly sins

Friday, April 27, 2007

This weeks prompt for Studio Friday continues the 7 Deadly Sins theme with #6 Envy.
What do you desire that you are lacking and someone else has? If you could have it would you really want it or is it just a notion? How come you want to have it? What can you do to still that desire so that there is no need to be envious of any thing or anybody?
I could go on another rant about this industry lately, and the total lack of respect for others that some people exhibit but I'd just be rehashing what I wrote last week. So instead I'll share a little of my story. in 2005 I got my first project picked up for publication (yep nearly 2 years ago!). I got the bug and got it bad. I wanted to get on a design team and so I applied, for lots! And I got turned down, for all of them. I got turned down for other publications too. I started to get envious of other designers getting published and getting design teams and didn't like that it was taking the joy out of my creating, so I took a break. This was back when I had blog #1. I stopped blogging too! I just kinda dissapeared from the scrap world for a while, I didn't even create really, bar a few birthday cards.
Then I got my joy back. I realised that I wasn't getting picked because someone else was better, because my work wasn't up to par, and honestly I realised I wasn't putting the time in needed to get better. So I put that time in! And guess what? it paid off! Literally weeks later I got another publication. Then a month or two later another publication and design teams. Since then I haven't looked back. Whilst I LOVE my design teams and resume of published work I do this because I LOVE to create! Once that joy goes its obvious in your work.
As is also evident I restarted the blog, cos I love to share. I love to promote other people (sketches) and will do my best to help anyone with advice, information etc. If you have a question I'll do my best to answer it, if I don't know the answer I probably know someone who does, lol!
So yes once upon a time the green eyed monster lived here, but I got over it! Moved forward and worked through it. I'm still working through it, its ongoing because I'm changing all the time, learning new things, going in different directions.
So how about you? Does the green eyed monster reside in you?

How did it...

Thursday, April 26, 2007

get to the end of April before I realise I haven't shared some published projects from February/March? Seriously, where is the time going? Ok sharing projects from Ready Set Create Feb/March issue. I had a few things in this one, love Jen at Ready set create as she tells you pretty quick if she wants your project or not, wish all publishers would do that! lol! This issue featured love theme projects for valentines day, which I had a few things to submit. A few paper bag books, cards, altered box, and one of their other calls was for ATCs so I submitted the ones I had done.

Love You - card
All products by Boxer Scrapbooks

Heart - card
All products by Boxer Scrapbooks

Altered Trinket Box
7 gyspies; scenic route; making memories; may arts and lots of misc supplies

Travel themed ATCs

Today, so far, I made 5 cards and started a layout (Ok I printed photo's off!). 2 cards I'll be sharing later this week (more guest design team work for scrappin trends) and 3 are for one heart... one mind. I'm definately feeling the black and white lately and their formality line is the BOMB!!! And if you haven't seen their new doo dots and frameworks, go check em out! Seriously YUMMY!
Other than that been thinking about lots of stuff: how to gain back more time; next months blog project (already behind on that!); and just general creating. Back tomorrow!

6 years ago

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

we hopped on a plane and landed at LAX to start a new life. Yep today marks the 6 year anniversary of use moving to America. How ironic that today we went for our medical exams for our greencard processing. So I sit here with needle marks in both arms from tests, and I'm already bruising from the blood test. We went out for lunch and I did a little scrap shopping, nothing major. The medical stuff we have to go back and get our results on Friday. Six years flies by though! Amazing how much STUFF you accumulate in 6 years!

ok I gotta go work on assignments this afternoon, lots of work due this week. Card sketch coming tomorrow!

April Layout Sketch #4

Monday, April 23, 2007

Template number four for this month! I've been seeing some great layouts! Thanks to everyone who is emailing me and leaving comments about the sketches, love to get feedback. This one was tough for me, not sure why it just didn't flow for me. I flipped it (as did a couple of the sketch girls) and I layered the photo OVER the ribbon instead of under it. I think this is one of the reasons I like sketches, you don't have to stay exact to it! Turn it, flip it, rotate it, just take inspiration from it! For the digi girls the Digital template is available HERE
As always hook me up in the comments if you create a layout!
Enjoy!

Edit: sorry its gone! Published in scrapstreet June issue!
