Happy Halloween!

No theme Thursday today as it's HALLOWEEN! I love this holiday, though this year seems oddly quiet without my parents but hey ho. That means I am on candy duty tonight...

First up today is a card from the October Edition of Scrapstreet Magazine. Felt good being on the submitting side of things. As much as I love Scrapstreet and the crew it was a a weight off my shoulders not having that article, plus this means I get chance to HANG OUT at Scrapstreet rather work work work!!

Next up is a party invite. The invitation text is printed on the computer, added the rub-ons and bat after. Also made a matching envelope for it, with a smaller bat embellishment. This is featured in the Oct/Nov edition of Ready Set Create along with a few other Halloween projects I made using one heart... one mind products.


The invite was part of a party set I made, which had this little placecard, a cupcake topper, placemat and party favor bag. Can't share the party favor bag yet (soon) but here is the placecard. Too fun!

It's Halloween tomorrow which means that November starts on Saturday! Lots happening Saturday so check back (it's Digital Scrapbooking Day!!!). As I have things planned tomorrow and Saturday I figured I'd put the desktop freebie for November up today!

Card Sketch October #5

Is everyone ready for Halloween? I thought this week I'd go a little bit themed with the sketch and I added a basic spider shape, but it could be any kind of embellishment! This sketch is based on a card I made for halloween, which I will share tomorrow :) As usual if you make a card with the sketch be sure to link me up in the comments as I love to come check them out!

Like I mentioned, the sketch is based on a card I made, and the sketch is VERY similar to the card so I thought I'd go awol on this weeks and change it up a bit. This is a hybrid card, the center sentiment panel is made in photoshop using wordart I created. I chose colors from the frame and I am quite happy with the results. Seem to be very into making my own sentiments lately. This is the third such card in two weeks!

Scrapbooking & Beyond, Fall Issue

If you see the current issue of Scrapbooking & Beyond on the newsstands, pick it up and take a peek at pages 70 & 71 :) Yep I'm in this issue, with a layout about my little spotty monsters.

If you want a peek, here is the two page spread :) My little cutie River in her Monster outfit. In the blurb on page 70 they call River a boy, but she's a girl, she just looks kinda like a male dog. Almost everyone makes that mistake. Anyway if you get the mag, there is a full step by step tutorial for the layout, along with instructions for every project in the magazine! Great mag!

Manufacturer Monday - Dreamstreet

Final week of the Dreamstreet Manufacturer Mondays. I kinda saved one of my favorite papers till last. Even though this is from the Bella Donna line, it seems it would fit in nicely to the Daisy Days line too. Fun and feminine yet with a little bit of whimsy! To add to that I decided to go hybrid this week, the sentiment panel on each of the cards is made in photoshop using the Glitz "create-a-card" CD. Have to say I am LOVING this CD! How perfect is this dress with the Dreamstreet paper?

BOO

Yay it's the weekend! Love the weekends! This weeks stash challenge is to use FOAM STAMPS! If you're like me, you bought them and shoved them on a shelve after using them once or twice. This Halloween set was published in Scrapstreets August magazine.

Supplies: Stamps: Scrapworks, Paper: Die Cuts With a View, Brads: Creative Impressions, Bag Template: Di Hickman, Other: ink.

The Scrapworks stamps are small, and it makes them useful for many things, including cards, small projects, or layouts. Foam stamps are so versatile with lots of uses. On my projects I used black ink, but you could use ink, paint, glitter glue, and more, the sky is the limit!

So dig out those foam stamps this weekend!

Photo Friday

Last months challenge was to use the scene settings on your camera. I have to say that the scene settings that get used most on my camera are the macro and sport modes. I LOVE taking close up shots of objects, and sport mode is pretty much the only way I can get clear (non blurry) photo's of the dogs (works for kids too). Two macro photo's from me this week :) Told you I love macro shots! The one below is of a Mantis, and I have another of a spider , remote linked so don't look if you are squeamish!

Challenge for November: APERTURE!
We've explored the manual, we've used the scene settings now it's time to get into the buttons and switches! On my SLR there are the settings P (program/automatic), A (Aperture priority), S (Shutter Priority) and M (manual). Obviously we've done P - automatic mode a lot already, that's the problem! So we'll skip P, and move onto Aperture (dig out those manuals again!). Aperture is basically depth of field, when we decrease the aperture value to focus on an object close to us we get a photo with a blurred background. Increasing the aperture value gives you a longer focus range.

So the challenge is a two-fer to find the Aperture setting and USE it. I suggest getting some objects (toys, cups, pencils) and lining them up and practice focusing on the nearest and furthest objects. Then a take two shots from each aperture setting and compare.

Theme Thursday: Celebrate

Final week of the Theme Thursday for October. This months theme was "Celebrate". As you all know one of my favorite things to use up scraps. Well I've been making lots of Dreamstreet projects this month as they are my Manufacturer spotlight this month, and the papers I've been using were black and pink. Naturally I had lots of pink cardstock scraps left over so I came up with ways to use those strips of cardstock. I also found this celebrate ribbon in my stash, I think it was from Target dollar spot ages ago. AND hey notice the VELLUM! I think I covered about all my weekly challenges with these cards!!!

I loved the design so much I rotated it, and altered it slightly, I think it takes on a whole new look with this card! And I much prefer this one!

Card Sketch October #4

A fun sketch this week, something different is always good to get those creative juices flowing! This one is one of those love/hate sketches. You'll either find it super easy or struggle with it. I have to say that I found this one easy than last weeks! Go figure! As always the digital template will be available free in my store for a limited time! Snag it while you can.

One of the benefits of doing it all (ie: paper, digital and hybrid) is that things never get stagnant. I mentioned last week I was having a little creative rut and this card bumped me out of it. Whenever I get in a slump my first reaction is to try using sketches, and my second reaction is to something new, because sometimes I'm just bored and need a change of direction. So I set about making this weeks card and went hybrid. The kit is an old mini kit I made last year for Trevors fund raising. Even now I still love this color pallette. Anyway once I'd decided on the kit the whole card came together REALLY easy! The front panel is all printed out, and the button is real. I have to say I really love it!
