Card Sketch Nov #5

Wednesday, November 29, 2006

I love making cards! Each week I share a sketch, and a sample (or two!). Remember as always, link me up through the comments or email if you do a card! I'd love to see them!
My card: Patterned paper - basic grey; cardstock - DCWV; ribbon - offray; brads - Joanns; rub-on - scrapease; I used a small flower punch to punch flowers out of the patterned paper.

This card is one my Mother did based on the above sketch! Love how she took the stars out the pp as her 3 accents in the top right! Great job Mum! I think this one is your best yet!

Here's to friends!

Tuesday, November 28, 2006

My friend Lucy who I've worked with since April at Crafty Keepsakes recently took over a message board called Memories from Scrap. I offered to help however I could, and after seeing the banner and blinkies I did for Crafty Keepsakes she said she wanted an updated design for the site. So I gave her new banner and blinkies!

and because I didn't share the Crafty Keepsakes ones here is the new banner for there too! This is the banner that the Crafty Keepsakes kit was inspired by. As soon as I did the banner I knew I wanted to do a kit in the same colors! The banner is naturally bigger than this, I just uploaded a smaller version to fit on the blog :)

Complete with my new blinkie! I made blinkies for all the team, members of the month, GDT, and challenge addicts! Love making things digitally!

Projects completed today: SIX christmas cards!
Working on: DT projects for Treasures to Scrap; Christmas cards!
Coming tomorrow: New card sketch!

Card Sketch Nov #4

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

Its Wednesday! That means a new card sketch! This one I did based on a card I did in September. My Grandparents Day card for Gran.

This is the card I did for Gran. I used a square DCWV card, printed the text on scraps of cardstock. Big flower ise from the dollarstore, the flower brads are by provocraft, photo turn and brad by Joanns. Inked it up to make it distressed.
Ok this one was a new one I made for Andrew and Lena's wedding! Imagine the top left panel as patterned paper! Definately throws a whole new look to the card!
Being published in the Dec/Jan edition of Ready Set Create.

As usual if you want to take part either join in on the forums at Crafty Keepsakes or hook me up in the comments! All sketches made by Di Hickman!

This is a card my Mum made based on the sketch! Love how she used the card on a rectangle! She did have the opportunity of seeing the above card that is now out for pub, so hopefully you can see how it looks totally different using patterned paper on the left side! And a heart instead of a flower! Awesome job Mum!

Pixel Expressions! - review

Tuesday, November 21, 2006

This months digital sponsor at Treasures to Scrap is Pixel expressions! We were given a kit and templates to play with! At first I was intimidated! Its PINK! As much as I love pink I for some reason find it hard to scrap with! After I got over the initial intimidation I dove in! I love this photo of me. Its me at Sue + Daves wedding. Don't you love the woven ribbons? They come like that in the kit! Pre-woven! Awesome! This layout is going back to bare root scrapping, simple and elegant and drawing attention to the photo.

I looked at the kit and saw the awesome torn/rolled edge papers! HAD to use those somehow! I decided to scrap this photo of a solitary snapdragon in my garden. So many great elements in this kit! From the woven ribbons to the frame overlays! Loved those! Had to make a feature of them on this layout.
Pixel-expressions has awesome kits with great elements! They were a great sponsor! Thanks Pixel Expressions!

Both layouts featured in the Treasures to Scrap November newsletter!

Karen Foster sponsor layouts - review

Monday, November 13, 2006

This months paper sponsor at Treasures to Scrap is Karen Foster.

Now I'm no stranger to Karen Foster products! I own all the doggy line, naturally! I love the patterned papers and the cardstock stickers totally cool stuff! I got the chance this month to get outside my box and try some different theme products. I've used dog stuff, and the friendship line (Karen Foster rub-ons are awesome btw!) but this month I got to try some horse themed products! I knew I had a few horse photo's so I wasn't too phased. These were photo's taken at Seaworld, of the Budweiser horses (note the Dalmatian in the top left photo!). Now I like this layout... its only let down by.. my handwritten title and journalling! Which thankfully due to the fact I had to take a photo of this layout rather than scan it (too lumpy) you can't see that well! The chipboard tag I got in a RAK earlier this year. Isn't the paper beautiful though! I struggled with the design for a while cos I didn't want to cover the paper! So I made a feature of it! Lets just say I doubt I'll do it again in a hurry! Cutting out the intricate design was not easy! lol!
I also asked a couple of friends for some 'cowboy or horse' photos and Kristen came through with this photo of her son for the following layout! As soon as I saw it I thought "yep! thats the one!". How awesome is it that his shirt matched the red paper? Totally loved it! I used the Karen Foster cowboy paper and the red circle patterned paper is the inside I cut out from the above busweiser layout! I'm all into using every last scrap! Also used Karen Foster stickers and the little boot charm, which I thought was somewhat funny cos he isn't wearing shoes! Some magic mesh, a few star brads, some ribbon, staples, and the finishing touch... ink!
Karen Foster products really are great!

Lets get digital.... digital

Saturday, November 11, 2006

I wanna get digital... lets get into digital! (sung to Olivia Newton Johns "Physical")

I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon digital designing. Spink at scrapstreet challenged us designers to make a digital christmas embellishment to put in the store.
Well I made these tags
Which naturally needed brads
Which lead to photo turns
then I did this mock up for the store
which lead to ribbons
After I did this I added ric rac
and buttons
and staples!
Now I just need to get the papers done and I have a FULL kit!
So yeah guess what I'm doing today? lol!
I'm hooked its official!

On that note I am proud to announce that my FIRST kit, Simplicity went on sale this week at Scrapstreet. I am stoked to see something I designed in the store! Being on the digital team at scrapstreet has helped me so much in my digi scrapping! I've learnt so much there!

What's weirder than that? Seeing people USING my kits! Its really weird! I've seen a few layouts with the Thankful kit and it blows my mind! That mini kit has been downloaded 44 times so far this month! 44 people wanted it! Wow! Some great layouts too! Even people that have never done digital! I've reached new people! Amazing! I'm floored! Thank you all!

On a paper scrapping note: I got 2 more cards picked up by Ready Set Create! That makes 9 projects in the Dec/Jan issue! Yay!

2nd marketing meeting

Tuesday, November 7, 2006

Today we had our second marketing meeting. Todays meeting was all about goals. Did we acheive the goals we set for ourselves two weeks ago? I did! Even with flu! Though my goals were easily acheivable (just how goals should be!). I broke out my goals book today and actually WROTE in it! I figured 2006 so far has been an amazing year and to continue that success would be great! To SURPASS it would be amazing! I totted up the publications so far this year, and the DT kits, and wow they really add up! I'm looking at goals for the rest of this year, and as well as continuing with the Design Team projects I'd like to acheive:
  • Digital Kit for Crafty Keepsakes
  • Digital Christmas stuff for Scrapstreet
  • HOF entry STARTED!
  • Digital Kit MFS
  • Get my resume/portfolio site done!
As there is only EIGHT weeks left of this year I better get BUSY!

October Round-Up

Is it November already? Where is the time going? Seems like yesterday it was New Years and here we are planning Thanksgiving! And soon Christmas!

What books and/or magazines did I read this month?
Books - flicked through the CZ books again! She's coming to chat next week at Crafty Keepsakes!
Mags - Creating Keepsakes November issue and Simple Scrapbooks nov/dec issue. Light magazine month. Strangly out of the two this time I prefered CK! Had more of a simple feel to it. Not complaining there!

What movies and/or tv shows did I watch this month?
Urgh!!! What DIDN'T we watch! Being ill it was all we could do to just sit and watch and watch tv! So consequently a lot of TV and movies got watched this month! Including:
Movies: Mission Impossible 3; Ghostbusters; Halloween/scary movies
TV: House, Greys Anatomy; Miami Ink; Ghost Hunters;

What special days did I celebrate and how?
Halloween was done a little differently cos we had been ill, we just did everything last minute. Literally! We didn't carve a pumpkin this year. Pumpkin carving was something we did last year for the first time, and we did want to carve another but I was too stuffed full of flu to go shopping for one. Fortunately I'd already done the candy run before I got sick! Oh and we went for a meal to celebrate Simons 40th Birthday!

What illnesses or health concerns did I have?
Where do I start? Firstly I went to see a dermatologist, who froze a lump on my nose and hacked up my ear. Then that same weekend I got a terrible flu bug which just knocked the stuffing out of me! Still suffering with that still nearly a week later!

What fun things did I do with my friends and/or family?
Not much! We both got a horrendous Flu that knocked us off our feet! Halloween was fun this year as we approached it differently! Each year we say we're going to be organised but never are!

What new foods, recipes or restaurants did we try this month?
Again nothing! I did start menu planning though! This is just the regular meals that we eat. It works though. Definately easier and saves some money!

What special or unusual purchases did i make?
MY NEW CAR! Nothing more special than that! A 2007 Hyundai Tucson! Red!

What were this months dissapointments?
Hmmm getting sick? Noticing a theme for October?

What were my accomplishments this month?
I made my first digital kits! Got a thankful mini kit done, and a seasonal color kit up "spot-ons simplicity". More details in November! I'm totally into making digital kits! I also got 2 pages published in the Nov newsletter for Pagemaps (see previous post!), and layouts in scrapstreet. Plus I got some projects picked up for Ready Set Create winter issue, and Scrappy Chicks winter issue!

anything else noteworthy to record?
Started the marketing focus group. Learning to approach the scrapbooking industry more professionally. Creating more! I did a photo-a-day challenge, and set up another blog for it.

full round up details onKatie's site
